Re: **OMG NOW WITH VIDEO!** root, bootloader unlock,s-off at&t htc one x on 3.18 update!

He could try manually. That way he could practice adb commands :P

Lol. Like minds think alike. I actually did it manually. Had been awhile since I rooted an HTC One X so I too took a dab crash course :P .On another forum it is mentioned to boot phone back into bootloader immediately after getting FAILED 99 error so I tried. 6 out of 10 times I got the correct FAILED 92 error. Unfortunately phone does not S-Off, phone still in S-On. Will keep trying to S-Off...

wizzrah. Still unable to S-Off. Maybe I need to flash to an older rom? Bootloader is unlocked/cid: 11111111, currently on at&t stock rom (evita), android ver. 4.1.1, htc sense 4+, hboot 2.14, software number 3.18.502.6 710RD . Thoughts?

It looks good. It's what is required. After you got the error 92, did you continue with the script?

Also if you have teamviewer I'd be happy to help! Although I'm not home at the moment.

Yes I continued the script AFTER it fully reboots into android. Thinking something may be up with SU? When I try to run SuperSU from apps I am getting a message saying "The SU binary needs to be updated. Continue?". Then it ask's what recovery method I want to use to install the custom binary. I have TWRP so I boot to TWRP recovery. What do I flash once into TWRP? I'm guessing I should try flashing SuperSU.zip? I see it in the /sdcard directory while in TWRP recovery on the phone.

Update: I am S-Off now. After some searching via google I found answers regarding the SU binary needing to be updated. Not being able to run SuperSU from apps was the key. That was it, so my phone wasn't actually rooted until I got binary issue resolved. After receiving the binary update message when trying to run SuperSU I had to manually boot to recovery as it would not boot to recovery automatically. TWRP then automatically updated the binary. I then ran the S-Off script again until I got FAILED 92... all is good. Whew... Many Thnx to wizzrah for helping me remember to not be so short sighted. Forums & Google are your friends but you have to first REALLY pay attention to what your device is telling you! LOL... Think I will try CleanROM 7 P1 now. And yes, I have a good recovery back up via TWRP :P

Interesting, you are the third person that has solved their s off problems by updating their binaries. I think that may be the solution to future problems. Well, enough of me then. Happy flashing!

To be fair, here is a list of things that helped people get s-off (atleast from my experience while chatting with them):

Trying the s-off method more than once.

Booting into bootloader and typing "fastboot oem writecid 11111111", rebooting, and then doing the s off script again.

Updating binaries<------ Hehehe...

Re-flashing supersu.zip

Changing usb ports (They were using a usb 3.0 port. : / sometimes I think life loves to troll people.)

Using a different usb cable...

Uninstalling and reinstalling drivers.

I had one guy even brick his phone after s-off (which is super rare) and he reflashed his backup and s off worked again. (Good thing he listened to me about the backups!)

I'm too lazy to list any other possible variables and/or solutions. I should make a seperate post on it LOL

Also you didn't have to boot into recovery manually. The toolkit has the command built into it. "Boot into recovery" I think is the button.

Is the su update zip 1.65 baked into the latest toolkit. The one I downloaded on 10/19/13 Had an update. 1.65 was released around early September. I was rooted and had superuser access with s-on and still was unable to obtain s-off. It took me to detach device from computer after entering cmd prompts for the RUU black HTC screen to see that I had s-off. Then Re installed drivers and I was good to go.
Upgraded my hboot to 2.15 cause I was having data drops and reboots.

Yes the supersu.zip included is v1.65. Also, I just flash beastmode kernel to fix any data drops or bootloops. Seems to work good. But might consider upgrading the hboot.

You are correct. There is a "Boot into Recovery" command. By manual I meant I had to run that command from the toolkit. When trying to run the app SuperSU from within android, it tells you to boot "manually" to recovery if it does not auto boot to recovery when you need to install binaries. So yes, I actually ran the command from the toolkit. Thnx again for all your suggestions, help and this forum thread! I am also really diggin' CleanROM 7 P1. Nice indeed :P

Any real benefits to upgrading hboot? I'm having no issues so far on hboot 2.14 . Learned along time ago via Linux. Newer ain't always better & if it ain't broke leave it the hell alone. Haaaa!

Only reason I upgraded mine was so I could use different kernels without data drops and reboots other than beastmode. Everyone has their preferences lol. But actual noticeable differences idk. I'm using a t mobile Germany radio with viper and beastmode on hboot 2.15 s-off and performance and connection speeds are good here in so cal

Alright. I'm in no cal. By connection speeds I take it you mean provider connect speed? I'm on at&t LTE here. Getting 18 Mbps dn/7Mbps up. Getting 5 of 6 bars.

I just didn't want to have to be forced to continually use just beastmode. I want to try different ones. Upgrading the hboot give me the option to try other kernels to see which one caters the best to me. Without reboots or data drops. I haven't run into an actual bootloop. Not on this phone at least. Just random Reboots. But all that is in the past....moving on :D
