Has anyone tried both? I am debating between these 2. I am mainly concerned about battery life and camera quality.

I had the V20. Battery life was so-so. Played with the Mate 9 at Best Buy yesterday and I would have bought it on the spot if they had it in stock. Will stick with my Pixel XL for now. If choosing between LG and Mate 9, I'd go with Mate 9. 4000 mAh battery and premium build.

I've played with all 3 so far.
Auto mode on the Lg v20 camera has some pretty intense image processing--maybe a bit too aggressive. But it has a pro mode so if you modify things manually, you can get really good results. But obviously a bit of a learning curve. In terms of audio and microphones, very high quality. But again...do you need this?
worst battery life of the three, but you can swab to a new battery if you want--and had a spare.
Auto image processing on the pixel xl is really good and part of the reason why its a great camera--auto mode produces great results. But...no pro mode .
Battery life on the pixel xl is very good.
I just got the mate 9--but it should have a bit better camera than the lg v20--not as automatic as the pixel but the software isn't so aggressive on image processing. And the dual camera can produce some pretty neat effects. And it has a pro mode--but there is a steep learning curve.
battery life should be the best of the three--I haven't tested this yet--but large 1080 p screen and 4000 mamp battery is very promising.
software wise...pixel is in a class by itself
lg v20 has nougat...
mate 9 also has emui over nougat but still pretty stock...

can't really go wrong with any of them. But mate 9 has micro sd as does lg v20...

Did you get the XL for free or something? Why are you even in the phone market at this point didn't the XL just come out?
I think I need to start a phone lease business like they have for cars. People don't want to own anything anymore. It's all about the new shiny. Not a knock on you...I'm just sayin why bother with selling the phones online someone just needs to come out with a leasing business model. It's my idea if anyone steals it I will sue. :)

I have all three of the phones and honestly, I'd say you can't go wrong with any of them. Of the three, I think the Mate 9 has the best battery life, the Pixel has the best camera and the LG has the best audio. If somebody put a gun to my head, I'd probably go with the Pixel first, Mate 9 then the V20. But the reasoning for the order largely boils down to personal preference.

Agreed. The Pixel XL is just too hard to give up. I'm down in Florida for the week and the pictures this thing takes are insane.

Pixels have terrible lens flaring issues. I haven't had any lens flaring on my S7 edge or my Mate 9.

I know the Pixel does have a flaring issue but I've taken over a thousand pictures with mine and it's been apparent in fewer than 5 of them. I believe there are certain scenarios where flaring is more likely but overall, I'd say it's far from terrible. Either way, I'm hoping Google can/will address it.

I had lens flaring when I was trying to take pictures of downtown Minneapolis and it was quite apparent.

YMMV, of course.

I've had zero issues with lens flaring.

I've not tried the v20 but I did try the V10 and didn't think the world of it. The Mate 9 is crazy powerful, has a huge screen and great battery life. I also like the fact it's based on Android 7 Nougat. I think you made the right decision.

So I have to say that the battery on this phone is amazing. I think the camera on the v20 is better as is the in hand feel..I wish there were more cases to choose from for this phone.

I love the Pixel but it's just... boring. It works well, takes great pictures, has great battery life but it reminds me of an iPhone. I like to tinker and the Pixel just works - so there's little tinkering. The Mate 9, with EMUI has tons of menus with new to me options. It's a fun phone. Not sure if I'll grow tired of it and move back to the Pixel over time but for now, I'm all about the Mate 9.
