Anyone else notice this. 3 G hotspot is working now. I didn't activate it or anything. Seems like maybe verizon screwed up and activated it for everyone. A couple friends at work with other android phones from VZW said theirs is working today also. I'm using it right now. Anyone else getting free hotspot?

So do I. I just thought it weird that the VZW app is working now even though you are supposed to pay to "activate" it.

Not for me. I'm rooted an at first it worked then I got a web page advising me to call VZW to activate it for $20/month...

If you are activating the wifi tether, then in settings, data manager, data delivery, uncheck allow data over network (bottom box). Wait a second then re-check the same box and refresh on the connected device.

Doesn't require root and works for everyone!

Thanks for sharing that info.. I'm not rooted and it works like a charm :D

The only restraint is that you have to refresh every so often because you will eventually get the contact your service provider for this service page. However that is something I can deal with for free secured wireless tethering.

Wow it works for me too. I turned it off for now. Hope this doesn't just show up on my bill next month! Prob wont though. Wonder why it's free maybe they figured it just makes sense!

How long have you had it running? Im sure you will see a charge on your next bill. Verizon loves their money and rarely gives anything away for free.

Is there any speed difference when using hotspot app compared to rooted wireless tether app?

I compared them to my MiFi (Wifi and USB mode) and my Droid using rooted wifi tether. Speeds were about the same. maybe slightly off but so slightly that it's noticeable.

How you long have you done this and have you ever seen an unwanted charge on your bill using this method on a non rooted phone? Please inform us.

Be careful they didnt change it to the same system they use for minutes. Make sure you arent running up "Wireless Tether" charges. Verizon is bad for that type of thing.
