Verizon Apparently not offering Galaxy S II

To those looking to switch carriers...i'm sure you have already considered this, but don't let your disappointment in vzw not getting the gs2 and other carriers getting it cloud the golden rule- choose the network first, then choose the phone. I once switched networks for a phone (not an iPhone) and the network wasn't as good for me so I had to switch back and it was a real pain.

For those who have equally good network options and can choose from any of the carriers...lucky you!

After I found out that we werent getting the SGS2, I was dead on set on switching to Sprint to get it. Then I calmed down a bit and thought of the crappy reception I would be getting. In 2 years, who knows, maybe VZW will get the SGS4? I decided I am not willing to give up my unlimited data for a phone that I would be getting rid of in 2 years. I am now the (not really proud) owner of a Droid Charge. I just need to figure out how to get Touchwiz 4.0 on this.

Got it for 119.99 at Target. Cant beat that deal.

Well I guess I will see some of you on the Prime boards. Hopefully that won't end in the same disappointment. If Big Red screws up with the Prime as well then I will say that they managed to completely drop the ball again. I'm not a fan of them passing on the S2, but I'm hoping it I because they are trying to be the first with the Prime and they felt it was too similar to the S2 to warrant getting both. Maybe if we are really lucky it means the Prime will indeed show up before December.

Both of my brothers and parents, as well as a bunch of friends use Sprint and they haven't had much to complain about around here. Network isn't the most important thing to me anymore since I only use 200 minuites a month and half my data is on wifi. I refuse to keep supporting Verizon when they keep stepping all over us. First it was raising the ETF to 350, then it was raising the insurance detuctible, then it was a severe slowing of data since the iPhone came about along with dropped calls for the first time ever ( in my parts I can get as low as 150 kbs and under normal circumstances I can't stream even low quality YouTube ), then it was adding continuous copious amounts of bloatware that can not be removed without root, then it was killing unlimited data. The whole time the phone selection is mediocre at best. This is the final straw for me. The price is way too high and for what? Network? The network has gotten worse for me so that being the only reason to stay with Verizon is invalid for me now. A good phone is a higher priority along with a company that hasn't shafted me...yet. I'll protest Verizon with my pocketbook.

I'm not terribly surprised by the news. There has never been FCC clearance of a Verizon version. There has never been verification that an LTE version of the current SGSII exists that would work on Verizon's network.

I suspect we'll see a modified version of SGSII with LTE before end of year. Whether that is the Prime or Stratosphere or something else - I have no idea.

I'll wait to hear on Monday, but this defies all logic if true. The largest US carrier not wanting to carry the best selling phone in the world. Hmm ... Just beyond stupid. If true, I will seriously consider going to Sprint. Never had I even envisioned entertaining the thought. But, this would make me do it.

This is what I'm thinking too. Why wouldn't you want to have the best selling phone in the world in your lineup it doesn't seem to make much sense

It's great reading all these Samsung PR hacks posting fake posts of solidarity. To the real people interested in keeping score, this probably has to do with the fact that Samsung is going to kill the market with their uncoordinated diarrhea strategy. Did you see yesterday's ridiculous announcement of overkill models? 2 blackberry ripoffs (and why would they think going after the dying market is a winning strategy?), and then 2 more galaxy variant lines. Which, if you multiply by the number of US carriers, is a ridiculous number of phones to put out at once, all of which are only differentiated by millimeters. Oh, and the GS3 hits Europe in the winter. But enjoy the GS2.

Well this massively screws me over. I wasn't really a huge fan of the Bionic so far, but it looks like I am at least going to have to give it a shot. My phone's days are very very numbered and I don't think that there is any way that it will last until the Prime. This has left me very skeptical and I don't think I am willing to believe any sort of rumors that are floating around. If there is something that confirms the Prime to the mid October region then I will wait, but there is no way I can wait longer than that. At this point I think it would be more realistic to take the earliest rumored release date and add about a month and a half.

At this point it seems like my only options will be the Bionic, the Vigor (if that comes out even close to the rumored dates) or the phone with "very similar" specs to the SGSII. Maybe I will just get a really cheap phone that is used so I can wait a bit longer.

That's the boat I'm in. My Droid 1 is aging like crazy (loads of random reboots, camera crashes, flaky headphone jack) and I've been in a holding pattern ever since the Merge announcement. I've watched that and Droid 3 come out. The only phone I'm willing to go slate for was GSII

Look at this poll on Droid Life. Ouch, not good news for the Bionic.

Don't make a mountain out of a mole hill. The percentage of phone buyers who read these boards is tiny. If every poster on these boards passed on the Bionic, no one would notice. That phone is going to sell like hot cakes because most buyers will walk through the door and play with phones and be directed to the latest and greatest by the sales people. They may also see an ad campaign and buy the phone. Either way, most people are not coming from a buying position like everyone here.

If the SSG2S was going to be 3G, I don't see why Verizon would be so excited to have it. What void does it fill in their portfolio? None.

It doesn't matter to me. I'm waiting on the Prime because it's Google's next flagship phone with Ice Cream OS on it. And that will keep running all the updates released !!!

I am running TW4 on my phone. I have a near complete GS2 experience right now which is why I'm not all that bummed out.
I will gladly help you turn your Charge into a Charge S II, but you're really not that proud to own this phone. Me and my Charge are insulted.
Take it back (the insult, not the phone) and I will provide all the links you'll need.

The GS2 game, aka Galaxy S 2, Galaxy S 2, who's got the Galaxy S 2 game was something I caved on 10 days or so ago when I bit the bullet and bought a Charge.

It just pissed me off that they wouldn't release a date... and after waiting 3 months and not even getting that, I just said the hell with it and bought something else.

12 or 18 months from now, we'll have forgotten all about this.

Complaining about the amount of an ETF is low-class. Sorry, that's just my opinion. If you're not responsible enough to know whether or not you'll be able to afford the service for the two years then you might as well go to Metro PCS or Virgin. That's what they're for.
If you happen to be too obsessive compulsive or spoiled to where you have to have exactly what you want or else, then that's a whole other issue entirely.
The fact that the service in your area is starting to suck is more than justified.
Bloatware? Seriously?
And why should you care whether there's unlimited data as you use wifi half the time. It's extremely expensive to maintain the data network when there are idiots like me hogging the crap out of it.

I wasn't insulting the phone, I guess I meant that I was super disappointed that I didn't have a SGS2, so yes, I take it back :)

How do I get TW4.0? I have never rooted a phone, and am a bit hesitant to do so. Is that something that has to be done in order to get TW4.0? I'm not the most tech savvy and do not want to brick the phone.

Thanks!

wait, did you just call him poor? well, he might be "low-class" but you have absolutely no class at all.

I wonder if the Verizon version will be announced at the IFA event, where apparently Samsung will introduce S2's with LTE. Maybe the other three carriers will be announced as 3G on Monday.

Yeah, I know. I highly doubt it.

No, I'm sure they will be announced as "4G" on Monday, but it's not "4G/LTE".

.... Do you really want the SGS2 on another carrier that has a spotty at best network and slow? It's like having an awesome camera that can't take pictures. ....

VZW mising out on the iPhone pretty much derails this theory. It is NOT better for VZW to assume that people will forgo lesser networks to stay on VZW and stomach inferior phones. It hasn't happened in the past , and I wouldn't expect it to happen in the future. Some people care more about the network than others (smart people IMO), but that hasn't helped enough when bad decisions like this are made ... This is a bad move for VZW ..
