My wife will be getting my Pixel 2 XL. I will be getting the Pixel 3 XL. With my kids, I already have 4 lines and have no use for a 5th. If my calculations are correct, and paying $20 per month for 24 months for a 5th line, is it really like getting one phone free and about $300 off the other? And then there is still the fact I do not need a 5th line.

What you need to remember is that for you to get the 2nd phone for free, you need to start a new line for it for $20 a month (which you already know) but you also would have to keep it on that line and active for 2 years. Do anything to change that (cancel the line, sell the phone, etc) and you lose the monthly bill credit that makes the phone free. Unless you really need 2 new phones AND you don't plan on upgrading for 2 years, I wouldn't do it.

When I went to order my Pixel 3, they were pushing me to do the BOGO. The rep I talked to feed me a big line of BS (that I didn't need to start a new line when it says right in print that you do, that I only had to have it active for a few minutes even though I'd lose all my bill credits and pay full price for it, and that I could sell the 2nd one off and get both phones for free). After getting burned a couple times by Verizon now, I will not have anything to do with any offer they have that includes monthly bill credits and locking me in for 2 years.

They can do anything they want with the phone even sell it. Just can't cancel the line for 2 years. I have 2 different accounts and did the note 9 bogo. No problem with using the note 9 on the other account. Been two months and still receiving the credits for the other note.

Yep it's disgusting, like walking into a car dealership. I hate lying, scamming, lowlife salespeople.

I had a Pixel that I used a different line's upgrade for myself. Found out they never gave me the monthly bill credits I should've gotten from their black Friday deal, because I didn't keep it on the line I used to upgrade it.

And I'm sorry but the rep I talked to told me things that flew in the face of what the terms of the BOGO deal stated. Now if something happens down the road you could say that a rep told you it was ok, but if they look at that and the agreement you signed, they'll hold you to the agreement.

Just because it worked out for you doesn't mean it will for everyone, and considering I was lied to by a rep to try and get me to go on that deal, there's no way in hell I'd go along with it. I told her I wasn't interested right off the bat and it took around 10 minutes arguing with her and reaffiing that I didn't want a 2nd device before she finally let it go. That to me doesn't smell like something that will benefit me.

You're right everyone's follow through is different. Doesn't change the fact of the bogo. It's not tied to the phone it's tied to the line. Can attest to that with many of Verizons bogos which can be verified before the 14 day return window.

But again, she said I didn't need a new line, that we could throw it on an existing line for a minute or two and then I'd be good to sell the device. And I'm going off of most every other offer for the info, which is get so much off a single device and get bill credits for 2 years, any changes and you.forfeit future bill credits.

Now maybe it is different for BOGO plans, but I can't imagine Verizon is ok giving you a device for free to sell (for around $800) right away as long as you pay $20 for 24.months ($480). Especially when for an offer where they only give you a certain amount off a single device they have all these restrictive requirements (has to be on the the line it was ordered on for 24 months, can't be sold prior to 24 months, etc). That makes no sense. And with the full court press I got from the rep, I can't believe it was a good deal for me. Just saying.

What if I used the 2 new phones on 2 of my current lines, and then had an older phone on the new line? Trying to think of ways to take advantage of the BOGO deal and still be able to save money from just buying one phone at full price.

My advice would be whatever you're thinking of, explain beforehand what your planning to the rep, make sure they understand it fully, maybe even have them check with a supervisor, and make sure they make note of it on your account. It may seem like a lot of screwing around, but better that than have to pay an extra $800-900 dollars you shouldn't have to. Just my $.02.
