Verizon Coverage Extender Question

I have looked everywhere and did a search but haven't seen anything about this. I live in a low 3G signal area and finally got a coverage extender today. (I work in a 4G area and loved the look of this phone for those of you thinking the obvious question:) ). My question is if anyone else has one of these. My wife (DInc) and mother (Eris) are able to get their phones to receive a signal from the extender and can call #48 to see if they are hitting it. I am still not getting a signal and #48 gives a disconnected or changed number recording. I called tech support but they had no idea. Anyone have a clue? I use wifi for internet and other data but I am constantly missing calls and texts. I was excited we got the extender but now I'm at a loss. Thanks in advance.

Not sure exactly what that means but is there any thing I can try? Also does *228 not work on this phone?

Update: I have been talking to the Verizon extender group and was told in a phone call that I needed to take my phone to a store and have then update my PRL because it mine had expired and update my SID number. Went to store and they said there was no way to do that. Anyone else have similar experience with a network extender? I'm at a loss.

I have the Verizon Network Extender, and it works correctly with my Thunderbolt. I didn't have to do anything - it worked perfectly after bringing the phone home.

My PRL is 14001. The guys that your phone is connecting.... What is your PRL? Or does that change based on where you live?

My PRL is 15008. My NE works fine with my TBolt. I did notice that signal strength isn't as good on data as it was on my old HTC phone.

No issues on voice though.

Where are you guys located? Should all Thunderbolts have the same PRL?

The PRL should be the same everywhere. My Thunderbolt works well with my network extender at home and with a network extender at one of my client's offices. These are the older 1X only models, but they work basically the same just without EVDO (3G).

Is your network extender set to Open or Restricted access? If is restricted to certain users, make sure your phone number is still in the "allowed" list. Maybe even delete and re-add your number.

Have you gone into myverizon to add the number to the access list? PRL has nothing to do with it. When you start a call you should hear two beeps on your phone (either incoming or outgoing call) if you don't you are not accessing the extender.

I have tried the things that tech support have asked. I do not think we have a preferred list. I am getting on my Verizon to check. Why would my PRL be different from everyone even if it has nothing to do with the extender problems?

Well I called back today and talked to the network extender group and the guy assured me that my PRL was expired. I told him that 611 said it couldn't be updated. He conferenced in customer service and told them to open a help ticket with the ITSD group because they were the only group who could update the PRL. Finally found someone to put the ticket in. Hopefully they'll figure it out soon. I would love to know if anyone has 14001 as their PRL.

Actually, there is no "allowed" list. There is only a "priority" list. Even if you're not listed you can use the NE, unless a number listed as "priority" needs to use it and there are no more connections left. Then, as a non-listed priority number, you would be kicked off.

4G phones are supposed to get PRL updates OTA automatically pushed out. The standard manual method of *228 will not even work at all.

Go into the settings and see if you are set for "auto-PRL".

Dial: *#*#4636#*#*

From the resulting Service Menu select "Phone Information", then scroll down and see if you are set to "CDMA+LTE/EvDo auto" (that is the default). If not, pull down the arrow and set it to this. Then reboot and wait to see if your PRL is auto updated.

How much does this extender cost? I get horrible service at my house. I have for years and its very annoying. Dropped calls like no tomorrow.
