Verizon extends return date to 1/9 for holidays

Looks like I'll be playing with Siri for a few weeks starting tomorrow. Now my anti-apple rants can be educated at least.

I'm just looking for any info/clarification on the Verizon process.

I am on T-Mobile(Blackberry) and my contract ends on Thursday 11/17. I want a Samsung Galaxy Nexus, hands down. I do not want to enter another billing cycle with T-Mobile. I have a Verizon account already with my girlfriend's line on it. I want to take advantage of the double data at Verizon.

So I have a few questions, if anyone is familiar with the process.

  1. If my contract expires on 11/17, can/should I switch over on the 11/17. Or must I wait until 11/18 when I am truly out of the contract? I don't want to get charged any more.
  2. If I didn't switch at the end of the week, and switch within the next few weeks(hopefully), do you think I will get charged for the entire month from T-Mobile?
  3. To avoid entering another billing cycle, I am thinking of just grabbing a Rezound(or maybe even an iPhone as someone else suggested! LOL) on Friday. This way I can drop off of T-Mobile, only pay for that month at Verizon, and then make sure I can take advantage of double data.
    • How does the purchase work at Verizon. Could I put the cost of the phone on my bill as I have been able to do with T-Mobile in the past? Do I pay the full list price and then mail in a rebate or something? Or will I end up getting charged $299+ right then and there?
    • Then when I return it, I have to pay a $35 restocking fee(better than another billing cycle at T-Mobile), but are there any other costs? If the Rezound is $299 and the Nexus is $299 it is just an even swap right? No more rebates or anything?

This is operating under the assumption that the Nexus will be released on Verizon by January 8... Man would I be furious if that didn't happen.

I appreciate any insight into the process as I haven't done an upgrade in a while and am a new Verizon customer.

Wait, so I'm on a family plan with unlimited data, but my phone is currently broken. I AM elligible for an upgrade.

So, if I go to a VZW store tomorrow and pick up, say, an HTC Rezound, then I will ONLY pay the 35 dollar restocking fee, and I will be able to trade it for a GNex when it comes out?

Is this correct?

Plus the difference in cost, if there is one.

Can I do this "rental" if I am buying off contract (full retail)?

I would buy the Razr tomorrow and just wait for the Nex.

So if I buy from Best Buy they will have the same return policy as this holiday Verizon one? I too am waiting for the GNex.... Wouldn't mind checking out the Razr tho.

Because of this I will be picking up a Rezound this weekend. I'm bored with the iPhone 4 I have, and I'm tired of waiting. I was debating doing this anyways, but now that the return policy will get me all the way to January, I will be doing this for sure.

Traditionally you don't buy a phone at bestbuy and then return it to verizon. This is probably only for purchases at verizon

So no restocking fee at Best Buy? I know they have a 15% restocking fee on cameras. Does it not apply to cell phones?

After a year with the Fascinate, great of a phone as it is, I'm just itching for something new. I don't really want to go through the hassle of buying a RAZR, getting it all set up to my liking and then having to do it again 3 weeks later. But I suppose it only takes a little while and it would calm my itch for the Nexus

For those who ordered their Rezounds today (me), you can beg and plead over the phone with the rep, and they'll extend your return window to Jan. 9th.

does it hurt verizon if someone buys a phone and returns it for another............like I'm planning to do come monday if there isn't any word?
