I used one of my dumb phone lines to get the 5s at best buy for $70,but when I put the dumb phone back, I had to put a data plan on it. Had to do the same when I got the note 3 for $90 last week. Then I went to block data which removed the data plan. Stupid tricky Verizon. I bet many people grumble but don't know to block data to save on the data monthly charge on dumb phones

I had a little data use on the line I upgraded to (maybe a MB worth.) A couple of dollars won't kill me.

However, I have it noted to block data from both my basics now.

dpham00, I'm curious. Your 5S, is this a phone you are using for personal use or will you be selling it? I have up to four potential upgrades that I could use strictly for selling iCrap, but I am on the fence about it. On the one hand, I like money...on the other, I am perpetuating iCrap use...it is kinda a moral dilemma for me. (Though not one that will keep me up at night...lmao.)

My wife prefers the ios interface. Easier for her to use and doesn't have any issues. Also she likes smaller phones.

I am the opposite I love big phones :D

Same with mine. When I told her she'd get my Note 2, she was mortified. All I knew was that I wanted Droid Charges out of my home...lmao.

She's very happy with her S3 she got as her Charge's warranty replacement, and the functionality is similar to the Notes (minus S-Pen, of course)...was showing her how to multi-window and all that. But she's not going to care for an upgrade for quite sometime. Her phone is very well protected with a Body Glove and a screen protector. I'm pleased, she's pleased and I'm just sitting on 4 upgrades...trying to decide what to do with them...lol.

I would just wait for a sale and pickup something. I had 3 lines recently that went off contract so I got the note 3 on sale for $90 and 5s for $70. Keeping the lines off contract is wasting money, imo, unless you are waiting for a certain phone to come out. If you don't want anything buy on sale and resell to recoup part of the subsidy

I noticed this last night. We got my mom a note 3. We did the basic phone upgrade and switch. When I tried to reactivate the basic phone using vzw site it was forcing me to select a 10$/ month 75mb data plan. I didn't want to mess with it so just hit a corp store and they did it for me. ( had to go get a new Sim programmed for my mom anyway. ) everything went smooth. Just a bit annoying about trying to reactivate that phone.

You can do it from the my Verizon app or their website as well.

There should not be any data charge on a dumb phone period. A simple call to customer service should fix this

Right but by default the data plan is forced, you do not have an option for no data. Yes, you can call in but I am guessing that Verizon is banking on some people grumbling and just sucking it up.

Happened again. My dad Went in store to activate an old dumb phone. They insisted a data plan was required. I just went to the website to block data and voila, no more data charge.

That is ridiculous... I hope it doesn't become permanent in the future. I notice my account's basic phones using .001MB every now and then, but still. Appreciate the heads up.

And was this Note 3 deal the one when it first came out? I recall you saying you did the in-store pickup for $90, but was there another sale that I missed? >_<
