Verizon Galaxy Nexus First Impressions/Reviews

I will put up some detailed thoughts later because I can't put this phone down and am in the middle of unlocking the bootloader but all I can say at this point is, get the $#&% out of here. This phone takes my iPhone 4, puts it in a Blendtec blender and spits it out. No chance in hell I ever look back. And that's coming from a huge Apple guy and someone who owns the original iPhone and iPhone 4. My previous Android devices were Droid > DX > Fascinate > TB (for two weeks). This is what I've been waiting for Android to become. This. I'm happy to say that I am back in the Android camp, and probably for good.

This is the first phone I think I feel totally comfortable keeping for 2 years. It's shattered my expectations so far.

Coming from the OG Droid I expected the Galaxy Nexus to be HUGE, but for a phone this size it's light and feel perfect in my hands. Obviously for those with smaller hands I can see the size being a problem.

The phone is fast. The screen is awesome. I love the shutter speed on the camera. After a five month wait I've very happy.

P.S. I've been wondering what would come first: Facebook Timeline or the Galaxy Nexus. I got both today. Go figure.

This is exactly how I feel about this phone. I knew going in it was going to be a jump in size, but with how thin and light it is (and how big my hands are) it's perfect for me.

And I really like the anti-glare screen protector they sold at Verizon for this. Yes my fingerprint oil makes a little rainbow effect on the screen, but the texture is much better than the clear ones I've used in the past. Makes using this phone just plain awesome

thats the web browser. Install Opera Mobile and never load up the stock browser ever again.

Of course its a matter of opinion but with fullscreen mode and quick controls checked, nothing beats stock browser. If on ESPN mobile select request desktop site from settings and you should be able to zoom using double tap or pinch.

i have yet to play with it i picked the rezound up do you think this is a major upgrade from the rezound I upgrade my phone ever year

For me, it is. I rented a Rezound waiting for the nexus and the differences are HUGE...

-WAY thinner & lighter
-Smoother operations.. the rezound always felt a bit laggy
-More intuitive UI
-NO HTC Sense!!! This means more memory is always free
-Doesn't use a proprietary charging cable- way easier to get second/third ones.
-Battery life is supposedly better
-More frequent OS updates due to vanilla Android

Love love love it so far. Was scared of the size but its comfy. I do keep hitting the home button when typing a text but so far that is the only hurdle!

I got a screen protector at vzw....not great. Makes the screen dull. I will have to look into another option. I went naked on my Dinc2 and was impressed but heard that Samsung doesn't use quite as quality glass? First Sammy phone so not sure ?

Which kind of screen protector did you get? I got the anti-glare ones and IMO they don't make the screen dull. (Oil from my fingers does still affect colors a little but that happens with most protectors I've used)

If the GNex speaker is of lower volume than the Thunderbolt , then I know it's not going to cut it, hope that's not the case.

The T-Bolt, Droid Charge, Nexus S - all very low volume speakers (to me anyway), hope the GNex is at least as loud as the Epic Touch (decent).

This and the camera I'm worried about (GNex) - can't wait to have a chance to see (due to varying opinions, for the most part though seems that the camera and speaker are letdowns to most, hope that's not the case for me).

Anyone else can compare the speaker volume to the above phones?

All I can say about about this phone (apart from what has been said everywhere else, ad nauseum) is that I love love LOVE this phone. Not even 24 hours of ownership and I can confidently say that even with its shortcomings, it is the best phone I have ever owned or played with.

I like it very much so far. The only slight negatives are the wi-fi and cellular signals fluctuate a lot. I also like the feel of the GSM model better. If I hadn't got the GSM model first I wouldn't have noticed it but, it's more slicker and curved which I like. Those things don't bother me and I really like this phone.

My signal sucks at my home but, so do all Verizon phones and I don't drop calls. LTE is crazy fast out in the city.

I still have to play with it some more but, I think I will have this phone for a while.:)

Re: Galaxy Nexus- First THoughts/ Opinions/Bugs

BUG:
Plug in headphones at office so that I can discreetly pick my ringtone and notifications. Sound plays through headphones like a boss as expected. Thought, "Damn that sounds loud and so full". Co-worker taps me on shoulder and asks me to turn my sound down. Okay.jpg

Choosing ringer and notifications with headphones plugged in does not disable the sound being played through the speaker.

You're kidding, right? It's been that way with every Android phone I've ever used. Even with the headphones plugged in, selecting the ringtone plays on the phone speaker. It's sure not a bug.

Have the phone for about 8 hours now. I've missed 3 calls and a dozen text messages. The speaker is WAAAAY to low ....Screen to me is "eh" unless you turn the brightness up. Gray areas like when the market is loading have faint lines and look blotchy. Really not liking the fact I can't just pop my SD card in the phone and go....

Not a good feeling so far with this one. I'm disappointed :( Missing my stock Thunderbolt ..... Gonna load it up a bit tomorrow and give it a full days worth of use. Color me unimpressed to this point.

Oh, one good thing. This phone does NOT feel cheap to me in anyway. The only complaint would be the battery door. But when its on, its solid. The whole phone feels solid. Its nothing like the build of the Stratosphere or the Charge.
