Not exactly true. I sold an iPhone X I had on Verizon recently that wasn't and still isn't fully paid off (I just knew I wouldn't go back to it) yet. No issues at all, and I sold it on Swappa too. The iphone is still attached to the line it was on, so...

Won't be long before your buyer will be looking for a refund. Verizon will not activate a device payment phone on someone else's account if it has not been paid off first.

That is incorrect, and I don't want to get off subject by arguing about it. Anyway - it can be done and I don't think it makes you a crappy person if you do it. What makes you a crappy person is if you are intentionally trying to screw someone over, which I am not and am under the assumption the person that asked about this is not either.
 
Hmm so I have like $425 left to pay off on my current Note 8, and then the VZ chat guy said I could trade it in for like 300 bucks credit.

No way I'm jumping on the 9 like that. May need to email the Super Rep I dealt with last year and see what he can do. Or pay off the 8 (perfect condition) and sell privately to offset the 9 cost.

So, I just went ahead and canceled the order. What multiple reps were telling me just didn't jive with what others that had ordered the Note 9 had told me. I felt like I was taking a risk by canceling but I had no choice. However, I did not think that there were that many others to result in the Note 9 being backordered until October. In my mind, it had to be the screen protector that was causing the backorder date (side note: I was not able to find the screen protector on the site in the accessories area to see if it showed a backorder status, which would have possibly confirmed my subscription).

Anyway, I canceled and waited 20-30 minutes, then decided to go big and order the 512 gb in blue. I mean, those couldn't possibly be backordered, right?! I made the free 2nd device a 128 gb Note 9 for my wife. The status is processing but there is no sign of any date outside of 8/24, which I see as a very good thing compared to what my previous order was looking like. I will continue to monitor the order status, of course, to see what changes may arise.
 
They won't ship them until the following week, at the earliest. If it will be anything like my S7 edge, they'll ship it out a week before release day and hold it in a local warehouse until the day before release day.

Lol I went through this with the Note 7. It shipped a week early and kept circling until the day before release. Was madness lol
 
Ordered 512gb in Purple. Why no black??? 🙁 Oh well. So now we wait. And I wonder why they decided to move the pre order times around. Used to be 12 am EST. now it's 3 am EST? feel for those on east coast having to wait up til 3

Sit back and wait for your email. Your order status will say processing until it ships. Congratulations
 
Haha I wouldn't wait up that long unfortunately I had to work the next day. But still got my order in when I woke up lol
 
Only 11 days and a wake-up until the 24th. Won't be long. I'm experiencing the wait as somewhat anticlimactic.

No. There's no point in wasting time doing that. I'll start checking my status on Monday, August 20th. It's a waste of time to do it before then.

And, for the love of god, no one should harass Verizon customer service associates asking them when devices will ship.
 
That's part of the ritual! You HAVE to do that, or time stands still between the days of pre-order and delivery!!!

I work in the field for 10 hours/day. I don't have time to get bogged down checking phone statuses that won't change anyways.
 
So is Verizon not offering a trade in option right now? I've been looking around, but haven't found anything, which seems odd for them.
