Verizon Galaxy S3 won't connect via USB to my computer

Re: S3 won't connect via USB to my computer

Any suggestions??
Just the usual:
- in Device Manager (on your computer), remove the failed device, then do a Refresh and see if it correctly installs it
- try a different USB port
- try a different cable
- uninstall Kies (and any other Android software you may have installed), reboot the computer and try again
Lastly, try your phone on someone else's computer - maybe your phone is the problem.

Welcome to the forums!

You might try reading through the previous posts in this thread - there are lots of good solutions provided. If you don't understand a particular solution feel free to quote it (preferably just the item in question rather than the whole post - that gets annoying) and ask for clarification.

Re: S3 won't connect via USB to my computer

On my Sprint S3 all i had to do is type ##3424# select CDMA MODEM, then continue with the qualcomm settings and choose MTP if its not already selected and you should be good. NO HARD RESET NEEDED, and im pretty sure that the battery is not the problem, Let me know if it works, Have not tryed any other carrier other that sprint.

Welcome to the forums, and thanks for your contribution!

Unfortunately, none of those special codes work on Verizon phones.

Re: S3 won't connect via USB to my computer

I hope this helps somebody out there because forums like this one have helped me. I had the same issue of suddenly losing the computer connection because it has worked in the past, which is why I found this forum. I read all your kind posts..thank you. Then I had the thought to undock my phone and try connecting the cable directly. It worked again!

Re: S3 won't connect via USB to my computer

I experienced the same problem of being unable to find my GS3 from my PCs. After frustratingly trying and failing numerous times to fix the problem, I connected my GS3 to a Linux machine. My Ubuntu 12.04 recognized it and displayed the content. After that, my PC also started recognizing my GS3.

Re: S3 won't connect via USB to my computer

It sounds like you're using a "charge-only" cable (only 4 pins present) vs. a "data cable" (all 5 pins present).
If that's not the case then you haven't provided us enough information to go on.

Re: S3 won't connect via USB to my computer

Just wanted to say thanks about the cable advice.
I have two cables into my PC, my HTC Derire X can be seen but my S3 not.
But if I swap the cables both can be seen. There's random.

Re: S3 won't connect via USB to my computer

Make sure the Samsung drivers are installed. Power off your phone. Power on the phone in Download mode. (Volume Down + Home + Power) Press Volume Up to continue. Once it's in Download mode, plug it into your computer. Windows should now discover it and load the driver. Once this is complete, unplug the phone from the computer, and pull the battery out of the phone to get out of Download mode. Replace the battery, and power on the phone like normal. It should connect to the computer properly.

This solution did not work. All I get is "CD Drive "Q:" Verizon Mobile 0 bytes. Before, I used to be able to access the SD card and the internal storage, now I can't get to either.
I am using Win 7 64bit, latest Samsung USB driver.

Before, I used to be able to access the SD card and the internal via USB, now, nothing. Useless.
I am using win 7 64 bit with the latest Samsung USB drivers for my Galaxy S3

Re: S3 won't connect via USB to my computer

Thank you so much Blackdress....I didn't have much hair to tear out but you saved some! This worked like a charm when following your instructions for Verizon. As soon as I Selected MTP+ADB in the Qualacomm USB Setting, Keis and Windows 7 found my phone!! I am impressed! I don't know why these instructions are more readily available for folks. Spent hours before coming across your post....thanks a million!

Welcome to the forums!

There's any number of possibilities. Have you read through the whole thread to look at the various suggestions provided?

What have you already tried (using a different cable; installing Kies; etc)?

Re: S3 won't connect via USB to my computer

Okay so I had a similar problem with my Galaxy S3, rooted running Carbon Rom (Android 4.2.2). My S3 always connected until a few weeks ago when my computer no longer was able to see it. I even tried it on my sister's laptop and Windows picked it up, but couldn't identify the device or install proper drivers. So what I did was exactly what one of the guys said.

1 Reboot into Download or Recovery mode.
2 Connect your phone to your computer. You may hear a sound that the device was connected. Nothing will pop up though on Windows.
3 If step 2 didn't work, try reinstalling Samsung device drivers. Once that is done(which was my case), connect it again. You should hear the sound of a device connected.
4. Disconnect device and reboot/remove battery and boot up. (Do not connect to PC yet).
5 Once your device is booted up, connect it to PC again. Windows should now pick up it. The next step is Windows will then download and install the MTP and Android drivers which for me was 10 min.

So to sum it all up, there are 3 drivers your computer needs. Samsung Device Drivers, MTP Driver, and Android Driver. Once all 3 are installed you should now be able to connect and explore your internal and external storage.

Can anyone tell me exactly where I can get the right device drivers? There are none on Samsung website for me, it just lets you download Kies which I have done and installed and uninstalled and reinstalled. I also followed directions from here http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...obile-phones-1-5-27-0-drivers-win-8-7-xp.html and none of these worked. I'm at a loss. my problem is that even in download mode the fone is never picked up by Windows 8. I'm happy its not the cable (works with other phones) or the laptop (brand new works with other phones and tablets) something is just off with my S3...HELP?

The parameter is incorrect. please help

Re: S3 won't connect via USB to my computer

The parameter is incorrect.
Welcome to the forums!

When this happens, what mode is your phone in - Installer, PTP or MTP?
It looks like the phone is in PTP mode and at some point in the past you clicked on one of the behaviors in Windows and selected the 'do this every time' checkbox and now there's a problem reading the media on the phone and Windows is too dumb to figure it out.

Do you have an SD card in the phone?
