Verizon Galaxy S5 : how is your battery life after upgrading to Lollipop?

I just wiped the partition cache like some recommended. This problem no longer exists. I'll see if in a few hours if battery life is any better now.

Horrible. Would last all day without a problem. Now lasts 3-4 hours. This is the type of update that could make me switch to the IPhone.
CHANGE IT BACK OR FIX IT!!!!

Wiping the Partition Cache fixed my battery issues. It's working much better now. I will give another update after a full day on it but the graphs already show a significant difference where I made the change and now it's not constantly draining like it was before. I would recommend trying that before going through the hassle of a factory reset or constantly being frustrated at the update.

I've noticed a huge difference already by just wiping cache. I'm back to my 16-18 hour battery versus the 6-8 I was lucky to get before wiping cache.

Mine was terrible. My S5 was running slow, it took forever to update apps and those would often hang, and my battery would decrease by 10% after using it for only 5 minutes. My S5 died twice after upgrading to 5.0 going from 95% to shutting off in only 2 hours. It was absolutely terrible.

I wiped the cache partition on my S5 and that fixed everything, same with my fiance's S5. Her battery life still isn't as good as mine but she refuses to use anything except the TouchWiz launcher while I use the Google Now launcher. My phone has been unplugged for 4 hours now, it's down to 90%, and Android is estimating 18 more hours of use before it dies. I have played music for an hour using Google Play Music (stored on SD card, not streaming), gone through a few e-mails using Inbox, and sent a bunch of texts using Google Messenger.

I say it's about the same as 4.4.4. The battery stats are a little different in that the battery just seems to drain at a steady rate with 5.0 whereas it was sporadic, more based on my usage with 4.4.4.

Wiping the cache did nothing for my Verizon S5's battery life. I ended up doing a full system reset last night and today everything is much better. I was having it run hot and deplete at around 15-20% per hour with the screen off.

I did a Cache wipe in hopes of fixing the lag, crappy battery and Google Play install - so far no luck. Next is a factory wipe.
After the upgrade my battery lasts maybe 4 hours.

This is on a VZW S5

Update from yesterday. After factory reset, system is running great in terms of battery usage. I did contact Samsung on a chat and the tech actually told me lollipop would consume a little more energy, but not much. I have no reference because I just bought the phone, but it's not draining my battery anymore.

I did a complete factory reset last night, HUGE HUGE HUGE difference. Running faster, battery lasted all night and today with a lot of use before charging. The factory reset seems to be the fix. :) Kind of nice to start over actually.

My battery life is terrible after updating to lollipop, update is great as far as making the phone alot faster and somewhat better response, but battery life horrible. Phone is drained by the end of the day when usually I would've been at at least 50% (26% currently)

My battery life has dropped considerably. Because I keep playing around with it after the upgrade.

My phone is dying waaaaay to fast. 3hrs after full charge.

If your battery life has degraded with the Lollipop upgrade, you probably have one or more apps that are not playing nice.

First, try wiping the cache partition. If that doesn't work, then I'm afraid that you will need to do a complete system wipe and reset your phone to a clean slate. My battery was horrible and doing a factory reset fixed the issue.

I'm on vzw s5. This is what I have after only wiping cache. It's strange how other people on same network has had to do both clear cache and do factory reset. I guess I'm just glade I'm back to my normal battery drain time!

I've noticed that many of my apps on the battery stats screen show lengthy connection times.

I'm thinking perhaps on Lollipop apps don't close out the way they did on 4.4

For example, the notification control for Google Play Music used to have an X that you clicked to close it. Now it's gone, and records are showing that its connection time is far longer than how long I'd actively used the app.

Just a thought...

Like all the above folks, soon after the Lollipop upgrade my phone started overheating (105 F) and the battery life tanked (4hrs from full charge to 2%). I did a full wipe/reset based on the above feedback (used Kies and Helium for backups, Helium failed me), and while the stats initially look better, after an hour the burn rate looks to be pretty bad again. Looking at GSAM Battery Monitor and DU Battery Saver, it appears FB Messenger app is consuming a lot of resources (more now than the OS, which wasn't the case before the wipe/reset). Going to uninstall FB Messenger and see what that does.

SOLUTION: DISABLE THE VERIZON CALLER ID APP <<<<<

When I first installed Lollipop:

1. Battery drained quickly.
2. Phone got hot for no apparent reason.
3. The user interface was intermittently slow and jittery.

I'm used to getting getting long comfortable battery life and routinely playing Real Racing 3 (a graphics heavy game).

1. I force stopped and disabled this rogue (and apparently unnecessary) Verizon caller ID app that kept showing up in my task manager and on my battery screen.

2. I wiped the cache.

3. Booted back up.

Everything's been running great, going on a few days now. Way faster. The UI is as smooth as silk. Slightly longer battery life than I was used to with KK (I think; certainly not shorter). No heating up whatsoever.

Visual caller ID still works fine. I have no real idea what that Verizon app is for, but I suspect it's proprietary and unnecessary. And I can always re-enable it if necessary.

Good luck!

I thought I would post a screen shot of my battery. I unplugged my phone at 5:30 am this morning and have used it heavily for texting, Facebook, and played music (locally stored mp3 files via a wired headphones at 60% volume) for 4 hours and over Bluetooth for an hour.

I have cleared my phone's cache partition and screen brightness is set to ~20% (what I normally set it to). Bluetooth was on the entire time continually syncing with my Moto 360 and Wi-Fi off most of the day.
