Verizon Galaxy S5 : how is your battery life after upgrading to Lollipop?

I am doing better after my battery recalibration method that I learned from my rooting days but still not as good as Kit Kat. What I did was let my phone go till it shut down then charged it fully with it powered off. Ran it till fully shut down and turned it back on and charged it fully again. Seems much better.

The first thing I've noticed is my phone is noticeably warm to hot when it is charging. Especially when I use the cord it came with. It is less warm with regular mini charge cords. Secondly, it is not holding a charge. Normally I charge at home. Can work all day with our plugging it in unless heavy usage. Since lollipop update I'm having to plug it in multiple times per day. So not cool

I have followed the same route as others (cache wipe, battery pull, uninstall Google Fit, battery monitors, etc.) and yet the issue persists. I have noticed a pattern however. My battery charge begins its rapid decline as soon as I unplug it from the charger causing the phone to quickly overheat. Rebooting the phone is the only way I can stop it. Once I reboot, the charge will last as long as it used to. The interesting part, as soon as I recharge and unplug, the battery gets hammered again.

So now my daily routine is to reboot a couple minutes after unplugging the charger. Doing so gives me the full potential of my battery life. I have been in this routine for the past 3 days without incident. (The reason I wait a couple of minutes to reboot is because I once rebooted immediately after unplugging and it didn't stop the battery drain - rebooting a second time did.)

I am having the same issues that you described you (and most people) are having. Hot, apps sticking, lag, non-responsive etc. I'm thinking of doing a factory reset, but if I do that, what OS comes back up... Lolipop or the OS that was installed wen I first got the phone?

GS5 updated to A5, then factory data reset - HUGE difference!!! CPU is now hovering around 10-15% and it is really fast again. The new scan method for the fingerprint reader is much better. I am also running Yahoo Aviate as the home screen/launcher. It is very nice.

Do people who have a battery drain issue have facebook messenger installed and logged in? If I go to developer options and show real time CPU usage, com.facebook.orca is always at the top

My particular drain is OK when asleep, but as soon as I turn on the screen it nosedives. A factory reset got rid of the drain while sleep, and for most of the day the phone was OK until I installed and logged into Messenger and started the My Verizon app and data usage widget. Perhaps the fact that the reset logs me out of facebook messenger saves power.

Of course, it could also be the data manager widget or My Verizon app itself.

I've never actually installed the Facebook Messenger app and I still had issues, even after a factory reset (after apps were reinstalled). Yesterday I started having an issue with my sd card so I put in a new one. After a reboot my phone is now lasting 6-8 hours instead of 4 and isn't running as hot. It's only been a day and a half so I can't call it a win yet but it might be something to try.

I also uninstalled different apps one at a time but didn't find one that solved the issue. Interestingly, when I uninstalled MyFitnessPal and then reinstalled it a couple of days later it was a different version and ran MUCH faster. Don't know if that's related or not. Maybe when I restored my apps from backup (Helium) something wasn't playing nice.

I have also seen weird issues today with my app updates not installing all the way or installing over and over again.

Prior I never went below 50% now my phone is shutting off around 6:00pm because the battery is dead. This sucks.

Did you go to about in settings, and hitting the build number 10 times? Developer settings are hidden since JB or ICS and you need to do that to unhide it.

After doing a factory reset yesterday I can say it made a HUGE difference for me. Battery life is now better than on lot kat it seems, and it performs so much better. I did a completely clean install, didn't do any backups or anything so I just started from scratch.

The factory reset brings back Kit Kat though, right? It doesn't keep Lollipop?

This update has broken my heart. I hate it so bad. I've regretted few things in my life more than updating to Lollipop. My phone is a piece of **** now.

Nope! If you do it after the update it will just reset everything to what lollipop on an S5 new from a store would be.

My phones been on for over 12 hours and is at 55%, and it projects another 16. Pre reset it would predict maybe 6-7 from a full charge.

(Verizon Customer)..
Since 5.0, my battery is fine when in standby.. barely uses any power (This is unchanged from before 5.0). When I start to use it the battery drains more than before. This is very noticeable. like night and day.. Cleared the Cache Partition, factory reset and no change.. I do not have half the apps I had on before.

According to GSAM, I see no unusual services/pgms/apps using any unusual amount of battery power. stumped on this one.

I am seeing the same thing. At rest the battery is great but when I use it th3 battery drains fast than before. Cleared cache but not factory reset. Stumped as well.

Battery life seems to be improving with every charge. Mind you, I'm rebooting before taking it off the charger every morning.

Phenomenal longevity when display is off. I don't say "when idle" because I listened to a downloaded playlist from Play Music for nearly six hours today using the phone speaker, and the impact on the battery was minimal.
