Verizon Galaxy S5 : how is your battery life after upgrading to Lollipop?

After upgrading to Lollipop, factory reset the phone, seems to be the only way to fix the battery life issue caused by rubbish left over files from KK

I did factory reset work's fine the first few hours now it very worse battery drain very fast phone gets super hot 😠

well vzw and Samsung will not fix the bugs just liked they never fixed my s3 bugs. I will be really mad with Verizon if this update causes the same battery and lagging problems that the update caused when I was using a s3. there should be no major bugs when a major update is coming out. being first is not always the best option.

Slower, fast battery drain, worse reception and over heating. I went from 100% to under 20 in about 2.5 hours. When the phone heats up, it won't charge effectively. Very frustrating.

I updated my galaxy s5 on Monday battery life was drain very fast and get hot to. I didn't factory reset nothing changed. But now after almost one week my battery last longer than KK 4.4.4 maybe need awhile before the phone works well

Mines been okay speed since updating, but I did wipe the cache immediately after first boot. Battery stats say it'll only last 5-7 hours though so I may factory reset in a few days if it doesn't improve. Overall seems pretty nice though!

After update my S5 battery life TANKED to about 3 hours. I did a factory reset and chose to restore settings and apps. and had the same problem. Very frustrating.

In desperation I did a "clean" factory reset. Spent a couple of hours configuring settings, installing apps, placing widgets and shortcuts... it was annoying, but it fixed the battery drain problem. Now the battery lasts longer than it did before. In fact, I forgot to charge it last night and it's still going.

after reading everyone's experiences, i went ahead and immediately performed a factory reset after updating to lolli. hoping i'll skip the lagging/battery issues all together.

I'll post my battery drain/overheating story just to join the fray...i updated to Lollipop 4 days ago and I have had to charge my S5 at least a dozen times. I have tried power save mode, disabling every nonessential app and anything else I can find in the forums.
I used to get 15-16hrs of battery life (6am-10pm) with charge to spare, but immediately after the update my CPU sits maxed (monitored by Micro CPU Monitor) and constantly overheats (GSAM Battery Monitor). The phone went from 95°F to 105°F in 10min with standard use. I only had it overheat one other time in the last year (on my dash in the summer). I hope Google will replace my battery because this abuse of it is going to shorten the life considerably!
See screen shots from the last charge at 4pm to now (10:15pm) all while UNUSED and in powersave mode plus battery at 106°F (a new record for me)!

(Verizon Customer)..
Since 5.0, my battery is fine when in standby.. barely uses any power (This is unchanged from before 5.0). When I start to use it the battery drains more than before. This is very noticeable. like night and day.. Cleared the Cache Partition, factory reset and no change.. I do not have half the apps I had on before.

According to GSAM, I see no unusual services/pgms/apps using any unusual amount of battery power. stumped on this one.

It's now been about four power cycles since I installed and factory reset my S5. Battery life seems to be settling down, but it's still visibly less than I was getting on KitKat.

I was having very poor battery life, overheating and general lag after updating. I cleared the cache which didn't really help. I then turned off 'smart network switch' in the wifi settings and found all three issues were resolved as a result. Certainly worth a try. I don't know if this is a feature of 5.0 or not but I don't remember seeing it before.

I upgraded last Friday OTA to Android 5 Lollipop (A5L). I have had major problems ever since. I am in the midst of restoring after a factory reset. We will see what happens now.
On Saturday, at least 5 times I could not answer a call. The red and green dots appeared and I slid the green dot across the screen but it just went back over and would not accept the call. Battery life dropped 50 - 60%. Better Alarm Clock does not work in Android 5 and the development stopped last year - this is sad because that was a fantastic app. I loaded Timely - this morning I could not stop the stupid alarm, no matter what I did!!! - battery pull. Restarted phone and it went off again - battery pulled and left it off. I had a lot of trouble getting Kies3 to connect to my phone in order to ensure that it was backed up before I did a reset. I connected my wife's GS5 (still on 4.4.4) which took seconds. After that, mine was able to connect. I still wonder how many apps are not compatible with A5L. I suspect that there are many. When I ran process monitoring, it showed that the kernal swap d0 (kswapd0) was consuming most of the battery, Since this has to do with swapping apps in and out of RAM, I figured there was too much clutter. Also, the CPU was almost always running at 98+%. No wonder it was slow.

I will reply later, once all has been updated, with my results after a reset.

GS5 updated to A5, then factory data reset - HUGE difference!!! CPU is now hovering around 10-15% and it is really fast again. The new scan method for the fingerprint reader is much better. I am also running Yahoo Aviate as the home screen/launcher. It is very nice.
