Verizon Galaxy S5 : how is your battery life after upgrading to Lollipop?

My Verizon Galaxy S5 is much warmer and battery life has been cut by approximately 20%. The lag has also increased. I sure hope their is a new release on the way as I am not happy with 5.0!!!

I finally did a factory reset. Actually, 3 just for good measure. That cleared up the main problems. I still have some heating issues which affects battery life and lag. I'm pretty sure that is connected to signal searching.

Baby Jesus in a onsie it is HORRIBLE! I used to be able to go almost all day with my full charge in the AM (my job demands text messaging, calls, and at least 3-4 mobile emails a day). Now? Now? The phone cut off in the middle of the night. I was ON-CALL! I pray I didn't miss anything, but this is off the chain/out of hand/horrid/ree-donk-u-las!

I almost wish I hadn't done the upgrade. The only thing I like? OOOoooo the lock screen is "pretty". I could do without that. I'm draining within 2-3 hrs.

I just can't!

how do you whether that aprrox timing is acuurate and should i update?got it yesterday and some poeple says its good some say bad ideas?

This update is horrible. Both myself and my wife easily lost 30% of battery life. And as an added bonus, the device is much slower. Fn BS.

try a factory reset it shows many users have appeared to get a better system after factory reset

Got the phone two weeks ago. Updated to lollipop. Immediately did a factory reset after the update. According to Gsam, I am getting about 24 hours and 4 hours of screen time per charge. What that means for me daily... If I unplug at 5:30-6am, I still have 45-55% left when I go to bed and plug in 10pm ish. That's with moderate to heavy use. I will say Facebook was eating a lot of juice. I uninstalled in lieu of the browser based interfaces and it really made a difference.

I saw significant battery drain issues right after Lollipop update. Looked at battery usage to see what was drawing - uninstalled weather and FB apps. And many others (iHeartRadio, e.g.). Helped. Did the cache flush suggested in thread - seems to have made a BIG difference. Haven't resorted to factory reset - yet.

Thought I would post an update on my battery life experience. For me, something within the Facebook app and the Facebook Messenger really kills my battery. I installed after a factory reset, and everything was fine for about a week before the battery started getting progressively worse. Facebook Messenger showed up as the culprit, so I uninstalled that and battery life got substantially better; not as good as under a fresh install but still much better. After a few more weeks, the battery life again got progressively worse; reboots would partially stop the drain, but it was not perfect. Suspecting something within Facebook's code, I uninstalled the main Facebook app, rebooted the phone to recovery, wiped cache, and rebooted again. Battery life was back to normal - after a day to test, I then re-installed Facebook, selecting it to sync existing contacts only (not events or pictures), and battery life back to normal (which for me is about 16 hours with 2 hrs of on-screen time). I just reinstalled Facebook Messenger and will see if the battery life is still OK.

Odd thing is that Facebook App never showed up as a high use of battery in the battery settings or GSAM. Facebook Messenger does, however.

I received my phone like a hand-me-down (previously my brother's) and Lollipop was installed before I received it. My brother didn't report any bugs when he updated, and I probably won't see much since we had to do a factory reset in the process of switching me over.

I've only owned my phone for a week, so I'm new to this game (and only part of the smartphone game since August). So far my phone is around 50% when I go to bed and I don't plug it in while sleeping, losing only an average 4% overnight. I charge it after I wake up. Yesterday was my longest stretch with it and I went over 24 hours with only about 13% worth of charge between there and it was at 25% this morning before I decided to plug it in.

Is there additional performance if you charge until you get a notification to unplug it or are we only talking about fractions of a percent of difference? I'm curious about this because my old phone seemed to have a bit of a leg up if I started from "charged" instead of 99%. Other days when I've unplugged the S5 right at 100% I feel like the first 5% go a lot faster than the rest, unless it's in my head.

One thing I have noticed that may or may not be so Lollipop related that I see others experience is that Android OS and System run the most battery power, but the highest I've seen these reach is about 25% each as opposed to somewhere around 45% that I see in some scary screenshots.

i updated without a factory reset mine doesnt seem to show any problem yet other than wifi takes slower to connect and wifi auto boots on switching off flight mode otherwise everything seems ok

I cleared all cache and data from the fb and fb messenger app. I also did it for chrome because some people said chrome could be the problem. I then Uninstalled all three and went a day without them....got my battery life back right away...it even charges faster again. Now I am 48 hours after reinstalling all three and I went 16-17 hours and my battery finally hit 20%...I got my phone back!! Thank you to whoever it was that found the fb deal!!!!

Not to sound like a tin-foil maniac of anything like that, but has anyone noticed this occurrence with basically every update? It's like they're intentionally killing the battery life of these phones with these updates, and we have to compromise to get back to normalcy.

Airhurdle, I agree entirely with you. It's not just samsung either, I feel like it is an unsaid rule as an industry standard the last couple years. At one point they soldered the batteries into the phones.

I'm loving my battery life after lollipop and the update. I did do a factory reset after the original lollipop update, but not after the recent patch.

My Battery life was horrible after updating to Lollipop but I did a factory reset and now the battery life is long again. ...but now s-health is back to the older version and I can't get that to update ( an anyone help Me fix s-health so I can get that to update? ....IF YOU HAVE LOLLIPOP I RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO A FACTORY RESET) even though you have organize your phone again it's worth it because of the battery life

This thread is hilarious. So many of you will take the time to come here and complain yet you don't do a simple factory reset first.

Everything restores back the way it was after a reset on lollipop except texts. Even your icons go back to the place they were.

Good grief.

I cleared cache, did a factory reset and fully charged my phone. This morning, when I unplugged at 100% it said I had about 5 hours! Ugh! That is terrible compared to what it was before lollipoop. I don't want to have to go through the trouble of reloading kit kat, but it might be worth it.

Do I just need to clear cache and try it again? I'm at a loss.
