I just read the article that S Off is available for the Verizon HTC One but I'm not exactly sure what that means. I moved from a Verizon Galaxy Nexus where I understood the basics of SuperUser and rooting and was able to swap ROM's but I can't tell if S Off allows the same thing? Any help would be appreciated.

This means you truly own the phone.
Unlock the boot loader, flash ROMS, .......
You own it.

S-off is not available yet but should be soon. S-off gives you the ability to flash kernels. Kernals are the brain of the phone and developers can take a kernel and reprogram it to be more battery friendly, give the user the ability to adjust voltage and speed of a phone possibly overclock the phone and other back end things.. Unlocking the bootloader is what gives you the ability to change Roms and root. S-off means security off. Its like getting admin privledges on a PC.

@Tech_Head

You don't need s-off to unlock the bootloader or flash Roms. S-off and bootloader are 2 different things

So how is this different from rooting? In my mind, rooting is the same as gaining admin privileges. Nevermind, I found a really good description.

I'm just looking for simple root so I can use Titanium Backup. Where can I find instructions on how to root? Thanks!

Rooting is a general term overall for these actions. Just having an unlocked bootloader does not mean you have full root privileges. When you are s-off and unlocked bootloader you have full root and privileges.

Helium works alright...it kept force closing for me though while trying to restore a select few apps. As you probably know, Titanium is just so powerful.

I would then follow the link in my first post and unlock, s off, and root using beaups rumrunner. I plan on doing it tomorrow since I didn't have time today and if you follow all the pre-steps it looks pretty easy.

So my main question is do we have a Google Edition ROM for the Verizon HTC One or something very similar? I would be very interested in getting S-Off and unlocking the bootloader if we do.

FYI - I unlocked using Rumrunner without any issues and it only took 15 minutes would havw been quicker if I disabled Windows Defender first. Flashed ClockworkMod recovery now just have to decide what Rom to flash first after making a backup :D

Anyone know if there is a video guide yet. Or more detail directions? It doesn't look to hard but I'm not all that familiar with adb and there isn't much instructions there. Used it to root dna but had a step by step instructions just had to paste and copy commands.

No need for adb knowledge it's pretty much a one click and your done. After downloading the correct file you just unzip and run app as admin and answer yes to a couple of question and let the program run and your done. Just make sure adb works before by typing adb devices and it will list your One if set up correctly. If it worked for your DNA it should be fine.

What u think about 4.3 coming out soon. I know the hack will prob get patched with ota, but was thinking about waiting for update then for s-off. Or should I just do it now while it works.

Newtoroot has a Google Edition here [ROM]NOS 1.0.2 m7wlv Google Play Edition [JB 4.2.2 Stock ](8.24.2013) Optimized - xda-developers

I haven't tried since I'm not S Offed yet but his work on the DNA was top notch.

I'll have to check this all out this weekend. Want to have time to sit down and really look at it and make sure I'm comfortable doing this. I have rooted/unlocked my Incredible, Galaxy Nexus and my S3 so I imagine I can handle this.

Just no guarantee on how long it'll take to unlock 4.3. When the DNA updated those people were without root for a long time. That's why I rooted now instead of waiting.
