Verizon HTC One M8 Lollipop Update Thread

Update done here... No issues... I did cache wipe before and then did it after even though it seemed to be fine.

I wish sense 7 was part of this... Overall there is not much to this update... I remember hearing how battery was supposed to improve, etc... I hope this is all a step forward...

Edit: And no voLTE! Grrrrrrrrr......

No issues with update. I generally do a factory reset after a major update and did it this time too. So far I like it, but I'm also noticing the battery draining a little quicker, but I'll give it a few days to settle in before I get too excited. Like the new notifications.

Having quite an issue with my Twitter apps. I updated yesterday evening, and am finally getting around to playing with it. Everything seems to be working fine and smooth. But both of my Twitter apps refuse to update my feed. I use the Twitter app (mainly just for notifications) and Plume (mainly for viewing my feed). Done a restart a few times, reinstalled the apps, but they still won't update. Notifications are coming through though...

My standard Twitter app is working normally after the Lollipop update.

I feel i need to factory reset because this is happening to me too and the Cache wipe didnt work but how can i back up my images and stuff when i cant access any of my information on my phone? Please help!

Can you hook your phone up to your computer? That's how my phone backs up if I do a factory wipe. HTC has that program (I don't recall the name, that installs when you plug your phone into the computer).

How come you can't access things on your phone? What is happening with your phone after the update?

FYI if weren't already aware - you can change to 'Hide sensitive notification content' mode under Settings -> Sound & Notification, but it is global so all apps will have hidden content.

Yeah, but here is the kicker. If you click hide the content option, it only works when the phone is "locked." If I have used my phone within the past 5 minutes, it will show the contents of the message no matter what. However, if the phone has not been used for 5 minutes, it will indicate that the content is hidden.

Love the update in general! Did not need or do anything of the steps some people feel they need to (Factory wipe or multiple wipes / Cache wipe). Honestly seen about a 20 percent improve in battery life today doing same things I do every day since day the phone was released. Also agree things will run even better and look better once we get updated version of Sense on here.

My biggest complaints so far are apps taking forever to install every time there is an update (facebook took 4 minutes to install) and the freakin WiFi notification even though it's turned off it shows up as a lock screen notification all the time..... Yes, I did a factory reset after install.

Found another "issue" tonight. I use my phone with a 3.5mm aux cord to listen to music in my car. Previously, if I got a notification, the music volume would lower and the notification would play through the headphone port, so I would hear it in my car or headphones. Now, it doesn't play at all. Not even through the phone speakers. I was on a 2 hour drive and didn't realize all the texts I got because I couldn't hear anything.

I am planning to get an HTC One M8, and was wondering what to do about the update.

I've gone a full day with the lollipop update and have not run into any issues. Battery life improved and I like the new notification layout. I did not factory reset nor clear out any cache. Minimal update overall but again I seem to be getting improved battery life.

Rebooted to recovery and wiped the cache. Foxfi is still broken. Any recommendation for an alternative?

Mine started doing that a few weeks ago without doing any updates with the system. Not sure why, but sometimes it would and mostly wouldn't.

I also finally took the update without resetting now. Some people reported Facebook messenger not working right, but I am still on an older version of the app. I said I'd report back to see if the older version works ok and I'm here to say I'm having problems. If I type in a friend's name, they don't show up in results. It'll show results under "friends of friends" or other random people, but there's no direct friends list results. I tried updating the app and no change. Otherwise it seems to be working ok for now.

As far as an alternative to FoxFi, I have always been able to connect through PDA Net by tethering to my computer, and the PDA Net application on the computer side will set up a wireless hotspot.

After a few days running Lollipop on the HTC One M8, I am comfortable enough to say that my battery life has worsened--not significantly, but enough for me to personally notice.

Usually, on a light usage day, I will make it to about 10:00 p.m. with 55-65% of the battery left (16 hours off charger). I was at 35% yesterday by 11:00 p.m. I did have mixed usage (some bouts of texting that lasted a half hour or so), but then the phone would not be touched for hours at a time.

Overall, I would say that my battery life has not improved with the Lollipop update. However, it is not bad enough for me to pitch a fit about it because the phone is running perfectly.

I am a huge fan of Lollipop at this point. I would pick up an HTC One M9 based on how much I am enjoying Lollipop on my M8, but I am going to buy a new Beretta instead. Guns last a lot longer than my cell phones.

My phone has never once lowered the volume for a notification, Not on 4.4.2, 4.4.3, 4.4.4, nor Lollipop now. I use both google play music and the stock music app with the aux cord in my car as well. If you figure out why yours was, and can figure out how to do it again, definitely share because I would like to know.

HTC Sync is the program, and I reccomend that as well for backing up your content. There are other ways to do it if you are more tech savvy but that is probably hands down the easiest way.

Just do the update. If you do end up getting the m8 do the update before you do anything else to the phone, if it hasnt already been done at the store, then factory reset. You'll save yourself the potential of having some annoying bugs later on if you go this route. Yeah some people got away with not doing it but a general rule of thumb is if you dont you tend to have issues.

Why not wait for the One M9 at this point? it should be out sometime this month.

Yeah, I am still having some slight issues with it too, but in a different way. Last night I was sending messages through it to a friend of mine and after sending a message it would just freeze for about 5 seconds. I could not minimize the conversation or type anything else in until it unstuck itself. Only did it for about 3 messages then fixed itself but of all the apps I have on my phone it is right now easily acting the worst. Probably not 100percent optimized for ART if i had to guess, and is not an issue with the update.

I feel like my battery life is no better nor worse than it was. My phone has been off the charger now for about an hour and it is at 98%. It is estimating 1 day 16 hours left on this charge, but I have barely touched it. Yesterday I used it very similarly to how I used it before the update and it didnt seem like it was any worse than before.

The battery monitoring seems to be bugged though. it's not reporting usage statistics for any of my apps and just says "no apps to display" Tried a restart and that didnt work.
