I don't think it's irrelevant, I mean, if they are not honoring their commitment date, then that is not good. But, this has happened over and over and over again. Sure, hope for the best, but expect the worst.

Which is exactly my point. Don't buy something like this for it might be, buy it for what it is. HTC, Motorola, Samsung and etc. Focus on their next device. They do not focus on supporting as heavily as they should once they are released.
If you wanted ICS on your phone from the manufacturer, you chose the wrong phone.
