Verizon logo covers notification icons on Lollipop 5.0 locked screen

Hear hear!! My sentiments exactly. It wasn’t broken and I have no idea why they changed it. No customization available and hours of time wasted that I will never get back trying to get my phone set up how it was and how I liked it. Boo hiss!!!!!

I tied Lollipoop and am extremely disappointed too. I will not be updating or upgrading till 6.x.

i'm just dissatisfied with the Lollipop update in general: 1Weather notification never was on my lockscreen on kitkat, just on my notification bar and dropdown menu but now it seams that every notification has to appear on your lockscreen, so now i have a constant 1weather notification which causes my lockscreen clock to shrink. and the stock samsung music app sucks too. on kitkat you could fast forward, rewind or drag the slider on a song and it was large on the lockscreen, now you can only do previous song/next/pause all on a smasll notification tab

I found this thread a few days ago since I didn't like the lack of notifications either. It was the only thing I didn't like about Lollipop besides the texting app when my Verizon S4 got the upgrade a few days ago. I tried 2 lockscreen downloads from the appstore. The one I liked was called SnapLock. "Verizon Wireless" no longer appears at the top left and I see notification icons now.

Snaplock is great for those who hate the Lollipop update

Thanks for the recommendation

This lollipop update is the worst! It caused my phone to, freeze, crash, knock me off google AND Facebook, the sound notification on my texts works about 60% of the time. The loss of the notification icons on the lock screen is awful. How could the giant notification bars across the screen be an improvement? And if you dont want your messages to be read by anyone. ..it says ...content hidden!! Seriously? !
So Verizon said i had to do a factory reset. I lost pictures, most of my calendar, all of my memos, everything in my vaulty app. Im not a happy camper. Even that didn't fix it. So they sent a new phone. The day after i received it, the lollipop updated came through that phone. Needless to say, im right back where i started. Except this time Verizon flat out told me the truth. Nothing can be done till the software is fixed. All i have to say....THANKS GOOGLE! FIX IT!!!!

It isn't Verizon. I'm in Cambodia and after update now I have the Cambodian phone company name in top left where notifications used to be. This crappy update and the problems seem to be from Samsung.

A huge thanks to the person who recommended Snaplock. It's not a perfect solution, but I can at least have my notification icons back on my lock screen where they belong. Definitely worth a try.

Agreed with op. Not everyone wants their business broadcasted to anyone who happens to be nearby. Or in my case, a nosy 9-year-old. Stupid Lollipop.

Many thanks to the person who recommended Snaplock. Not a perfect solution, but my icons are back, and I'm thrilled.

Thank you so much! I had the opposite problem and the notifications were SHOWING on my lock screen and I didn't want them to. Thank you for pointing me to where the settings were!

I think I need to rescind my recommendation of snaplock. It's killing my battery life!

Any other recommendations?

Honestly, i hate updates in general. Especially ones that completely change settings and the way things look but that's just me. The only reason i downloaded the update was cuz my snapchat wouldn't work with out. Overall thu in kind of digging some of the improvements. The wider layout on the keyboard is helping my swype. This notifications thing is total bs thu! Why would they change those little icons? It makes no sense. They need to bring it back asap! I shouldn't have to download a lock screen app. I can't keep logging into my fone all day and i certainly don't need my child and others to be able to see that's i have notifications or what they contain. I loved those little icons and i agree with all the pervious posters.... i think i know which carrier i have. I freaking pay them every month!

I've never been so dissatisfied with a software update. The carrier on the lock screen makes me angry every time I see it. I might go back to my old flip phone. Google...boooooooooooooooo.

It's the same with every other service provider. I'm from Bahrain and I am with a telecom company called Viva at the moment... Same thing is happening to me... Viva is at the top left corner and it just took the place which was for notification logos... Which is really annoying.

I know this is blasphemous, but I'm seriously considering an iPhone now. This stupid lock screen is a PITA, and the lack of solutions from Android is outrageous.

I know that this was from a while back, but my phone was tricky and I accidentally upgraded yesterday - I had successfully kept hitting "Install Later" for months, but then yesterday the message popped up twice and I wasn't expecting it and hit Install Now instead of what I actually wanted. But anyway...

Is this something that was fixed in a "next release" that just hasn't been pushed to my phone yet, or is it still ongoing? I'm not smart enough to be able to roll it back to KitKat (I know the instructions are on here - I've seen them - but I'll never be able to follow those) and this is pathetic.

Like others, if this is something that will just be the Lollipop way, I'll consider getting an iPhone because I think the iPhone doesn't have that either, and I'll have more app choices with an iPhone.

Hello and welcome to Android Central GalaxyUser42!

You do not mention which model of Galaxy S5 you have... as per #1.2 of 41 Galaxy S5 models - Dummies Guide, as this can make a great difference in replies to your question.

If you are on either the Verizon or AT&T carrier minority variants and have updated to their latest Lollipop releases, then downgrading is no longer an option as the new bootloaders on these models does not permit either downgrading or rooting.

See, also, Verizon's new OE1 & OG5 updates prevent downgrading or rooting

I'm glad I found this thread and I just wanted to add that the Nexus 6 I just upgraded to does the same thing. It's unlocked, so clearly it's not a Verizon or carrier issue/implementation. It's also across multiple devices, so I think we can conclude it's an OS implementation. I thought maybe it was because my phone is unlocked so it would tell me who's network I was on - in case I forgot for some reason.

I do wish it would disappear so I could see my WeatherBug temperature icon without having to unlock the phone.

Just got lollipop update on my phone. This is working well for me (galaxy s4):
1. Install AcDisplay and use it as lockscreen
2. Uncheck "Full screen mode" in AcDisplay interface options
