I think you're referring to UltraWideBand. So you can't get the basic 5G?
No 5G, either type.

For the basic 5G you're not missing much which is what I haveNo 5G, either type.
I noticed that mine changed after popping out and replacing the SIM to experiment with something else but that could have just been a coincidence.
Mine aren't quite that badAfter further using my S20 ultra and putting my Z fold to the side I can now vouch to getting nationwide 5G on my S20 and like everyone else the speeds are horrendous lol. LTE I average about 90-120 and on 5G I'm not getting half those speeds. Hopefully it's because they are working out the kinks of DDS and will soon have the speeds just as fast as LTE which I'm sure will happen since the iPhone will soon be on the 5G bandwagon... Thats impressive. I did notice from a week ago my signal improved but speeds still remain around 20-30mbps dl and 5mb up. Gotta see how it hits tomorrow when the update drops
What I think is crazy, is that we have a 5G phone and there are times we see a 5G icon but if you go into settings and look at the sim card status it is still LTE for mobile data. But we still get slower speeds than we would have if we were on a non-5G phone. I have an S10e on Verizon for work and it gets faster speeds than my S20+, my co-worker has a OnePlus 7 Pro on Verizon and he gets much faster speeds then my S20+. If they don't have the network ready and it is going to be slower than the current 4G network why even introduce it at all? I thought that 5G should be just as fast or faster than the 4G network.
So when I get the S21 and I'm with Verizon on an unlimited 5G plan it will only be the low band and when the higher ones come out I'll have to pay extra if I want it? I'm in kentucky don't even know if we have it yet. My niece has the s20 ultra with Verizon but isn't on an unlimited plan I don't think she has a 5G plan.. It looks like on the map some parts of kentucky if I looked right have the ultra wide band.
I need to decide if I want the s21 plus or ultra and I may do Verizon this time and not unlocked but sure yet.
The lowband 5G is available at no extra charge on all plans. The UW 5G is an additional $10/month per line, although the top two unlimited plans include it (they're $10 and $20 more than the lowest tier unlimited which doesn't have UW 5G).
They'll try to upsell you to a UW 5G compatible plan if you buy a compatible phone. Don't do it unless you actually have access to UW 5G, or if one of the top two unlimited plans appeal to you regardless. The UW 5G phones will work just fine on LTE and lowband 5G without UW 5G access.
And I just looked up our plans cuz we just changed recently to get free Disney Plus Hulu and ESPN Plus and me and my husband are on the unlimited nationwide ultra wide van 5G plan I didn't realize that so either way I'm good to go and I shouldn't have to change my plan ever I hope. I have four people on my account and me and my husband both have play more unlimited for $45 so I didn't know that it says 5G ultrawide band 5G Nationwide. But anyway thanks for explaining.
On the advertised plans, yes, but not on the lowest plans. I'm on the basic Go Unlimited, which is a current plan, and it does not include mm wave 5G. If I wanted to spend an extra $10/mo, then Ishould get it "free."All 5Gs are free on all 2019-2020 postpaid plans
