Verizon Note 3 Problems, not entirely pleased

my biggest complaint about the camera is that it takes forever to focus on the subject. outside it takes great images, no doubt, but inside it just never gets a good focus. Like I have said, I am positive that it is a better camera, but I just wish that it could focus faster.

Have you tried touching the object/area you're trying to focus on? It's pretty fast imo.

normal hands, but it is annoying. just me resisting a change i suppose.

also is there a way to stop the phone from zoooming in so much in my text window? It always wants to just display like 2 responses with huge text. I would rather see a history of say 8 or so responses. make good use of the screen size. I know i can pinch to zoom it out, but i hate to do that evertime i enter the app.

Check your Airview settings, there's something about magnification when you hover over it. Maybe that's doing it???

action memo problem solved. I was pressing the button before i approached the screen. This took a while for the device to figure out what i wanted. If you just hover and press the key it will pop right up like its supposed to. My bad. again, I know i have a lot to learn with this device. I like it more and more as i use it. If i get a few more things figured out, I will be completely happy.

How do i get the handwriting to text to work? It pops up the box as it should; however, it will do nothing with the text i write. The action memo thing works great for me so i dont think it is a handwriting problem.
Most people that reported this found out it went away after an update. Unfortunately, it isn't a pushed update. I was updating some things in Google Play and after that the keyboard worked. You can try going to Google Play and seeing if anything automatically wants to update.

I went from the the DROID maxx to the note 3. Phone definitely has a little lag when switch apps, screens or running certain commands. I love some of the note three features but my DROID maxx is much more responsive and faster. I don't know if touch wiz is slowing things down or if Verizon did something with the config, but maxx is definitely faster. This is a little surprising considering the hardware specs on the GN3.

I recieved my new note 3 on thursday, release day. First I would like to say that I love the phone; however, it has some problems. First and foremost the camera is the worst I have ever worked with. I came from a galaxy nexus and the camera worked very fast and took great images. This phone takes forever to focus and then when it finally decides that it is going to take an image, it is totally blurry. I could honestly do better blindfolded with my dslr. This is the worst cell camera I have had in 6 years. I will say that outdoors it seems to do better. In my home it is worthless. I will try to post up some images taken with it later.

Next issue is that I keep getting a force close on the "watch on" whatever that is. a few other samsung apps keep giving me the same errors. How do I just take a quick screenshot without having to goto screen white? It takes way to long to bring up the air menu.

The note 3 feels laggy at times. I am used to my rooted nexus and it just flowed.

How do i access my open programs? I miss the key to bring up open apps to be able to switch between them and close them quickly.

I know there is a learning curve with the new device, but I am just not entirely sold yet. I Love the display! Cant say enough about the battery life. I am getting 2 days on a single charge. So this device has great potential

I will post other issues as i find them over the next few days. I have not had alot of time to spend learning the ins and outs of the device, just so you know.

Download APEX launcher and use instead of Touchwiz... alleviates all lag!

one other thing that is really minor is the keyboard app. when i type something, it wants to correct my spelling which is fine. Sometimes It changes things i dont want changed and im used to being able to hit the backspace key to undo the change with the galaxy nexus. Now I have to reach up high and hit a silly arrow button that didnt make any sense at first.

I switched back to SwiftKey personally.

When you're take a picture hold the phone still until the processing starts on the screen. My pictures were blurry until I tried that now they are fine

I have used the camera quite a bit and have been very happy with the pictures, and camera responsiveness. Maybe the OP has a bum unit which can happen.

Thanks for the help guys and gals. I think I have figured most of my problems out. I will recant most of the negative things I have said about the device. Now if verizon could speed up this horribly slow network. I used to get 25 mb up and down. Now I'm good to get 1-10 mb down

You can load the Nexus/Google keyboard if that is what you like. You can also change the size of the text boxes by using the volume keys.

I have had my note for 11 days and have noticed problems with the touchscreen not responding either. Thought of exchanging it, but not sure that would fix the problem. I think the CAMERA is great. Some may not know, but the camera is set to only 9MP by default. You can change to the advertised 13MP in the settings.

I just switched from an iPhone to the note 3an nd love it. My only compliant about this phone or my battery is that it drains. It's 1142 right now and its at 54%. And ib took it is the charger today at 650am. I would takea screen shot but my phone doesn't work doing that. I have to use the s pen. I've only had this phone for a couple days and have only 4 apps on it and my battery is draining quickly. Going today to see if it can be replaced. If these problems get fixed then I would love the phone.

Do you keep GPS/location services or Bluetooth enabled?

No I turn everything off but what's the point of having the feature if you can't use it

That's odd. I had mine fully charged when I went to bed last night around 1:00am. At 9:00am this morning it had 93%. Granted it wasn't being used throughout the night and I had the notification block on, but 8 hours on "standby" should show similar results to your 4 hours of sporadic use. I do keep location services on, but I tend to cut Bluetooth and Wifi off because I've learned it's best to disable the services I'm not using unless it's a service I use frequently (Like in the mornings I'll turn on bluetooth since I typically workout in the morning and then get ready for work and get into my car, which is bluetooth ready). Have you held down the home button to see what items are currently running? Sometimes I'll check what apps are running, and I'll find some sneaky app that's running in the background. I say go ahead and "KILL EM ALL!!! and let Google sort em out".

I am also having those force close program issues. Something about smart watch something. Probably just need to either get rid of that app or make sure the watch stuff is turned off? Hvaen't found that yet though.
