Verizon Note 3: When will we have KitKat?

Both of these features already exist in 4.3.

True, but from a video I watched I saw there's a section for this now.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (Verizon)

I agree. People forget these phones were built for the OS that they run out of the box, and other than bug fixes, a lot of the times new updates seem to cause more harm than good. In the older days of android where you *needed* the latest OS to run google apps, updates mattered more. But now with google being able to push updates through the play store, those OS updates are a little less important. If the device is running well on the current version why the need for an update that could make the experience worse, and then you would come back and complain about how you loved the device before the update and it should have stayed that way. It is a lose lose for carriers and the apple fans have brainwashed android users to think they need the latest update, because on IOS, unlike android, they do need the latest update for most of the apps.

As I mentioned before, I have 2 devices running Kit Kat and the people crying about not getting the update fast enough just don't seem to realize how insignificant the update really is. Once they get it they'll wonder why they let themselves be so bothered.

The first no. Not the same.

The second yes, but implemented differently. This phone unlocks instantly on 4.4.

I hope Verizon does not release Kitkat for my Note 2 until they fix the usb otg killer. Updated my wife's Droid Maxx and my meenova will not work without installing 3 apps. Besides not free, es file manager still won't work and you cannot write to the external card. Other than that I did not notice anything useful about kitkat.

Agreed.
On a different note; I don't think the obsession has anything to do with the quality or content of the update.
It's just a "have to have it" mentality.
Similar to the iPhone....Apple has not had a significant update or model improvement in 4 years yet the hysteria over getting the latest is incredible.
Granted, when an update features something completely new or fixes known glitches it is exciting....but updates for the sake of updates, naw.
Even funnier, the Note 3, HTC One, MotoX, LG2, etc. when introduced were the phones to have. And when we got them...OMG...they were better than expected. But now they are border line worthless without an update....LOL....what changed?
Here's the question(s); does anyone use their current phone to it's utmost capabilities? Will an "update" change this? With an update will you use your phone any differently than you do now? Hell, I set up my phone now (Note 3) pretty much the same way I did my Droid X several years ago.
I will say this, I really liked rooting my phones but found that with the latest iterations of smart phones I find no need. I haven't rooted since before my Droid DNA, HTC One and now the Note 3.

SPENCERDL or anyone- You mentioned that you are not taking the KitKat update. Is there a way to set your phone not to install the update other than catching the popup box and declining the update or exiting out of it? I have researched this but do not seem to find a real answer.

If you're not rooted...no way other than the popup box (and Verizon can "force it" ) to stop the update.

It's similar. Not the same.

All you've done is enabled SMS in Hangouts and chose it to be default for those intents. Under the hood, that is dissimilar from what the chooser does in Kit Kat.

Please extrapolate on what's different. Hangouts is default for anything I would ever use the messaging app for, I really don't see what could be different.

How the system manages access to the SMS database etc. differs.

OK great, so nothing changes the user experience. Got it.

There is an explanation for the SD card problem, it has security parameters now and you have to allow the programs to be able to access the SD card, at least that is what I think I read.

I'm no tech wizard but from what I've read it isn't just a permissions issue, as even once you do grant permissions, each app can only write its one specific folder instead of having cross app compatibility. Hence file explorers and media managers become crippled to a certain extent.

Is the benefit for increased security or to push people to use Google drive? Both, I think.

please back away from the screen

I really hope we get the update soon because it's getting really annoying having the best phone on the market, on the best carrier, not on the latest Android build. 4.4 doesn't change all that much, but it would still be nice to have it on our Note 3s.

The only things I'm looking forward to in an update probably won't change with kit kat. I had a custom rom installed on my droid razr (original) that was kit kat based. I miss lock screen widgets with a PIN lock screen, and the auto PIN acceptance when unlocking (where you typed just the PIN and didn't have to hit ok). I don't feel like getting those two things are worth rooting my phone to install a custom rom on the note 3, so I deal, and I'm really not expecting to see either of these changes w/ an update to kit kat. As for the SD card "issues" so many people are complaining about, I haven't used and SD card since before I upgraded to my note 3. I stream all of my music through google play music, and I don't take near enough photos or videos that I need to worry about filling up the 16 gigs I still have left available on my phone.

In light of Google getting ready to issue 4.4.3 to fix the camera and battery drain issues in 4.4.2 I would prefer to wait for the "fixed" version and forego 4.4.2 if given a choice.

What camera and battery drain issues?? I not experiencing these problems with my Verizon Note3. I must have gotten a good one....SMILE

I've been using kit kat on my Nexus 7 since it was released. I really don't think it isn't all that special of innovative. I usually add on a launcher which hides TouchWiz from me. I personally do not care for Googles launcher. It isn't customizable enough.

I have always found from previous phones, be they iPhone or Android, that the devices tend to work better with the software they came with. I've had other Androids before and every time I've updated to higher software, the phone's performance has gone down. Same thing with iPhone it just seems that they come out of the box with certain software and thats what works best for them. So I won't be upgrading because I love my phone as it is. And if it ain't broken...
