"Software change applies to block custom kernel being downloaded on device" so does this mean they are blocking the loading of custom ROMs?

I 've got the update and the only thing I notice is that my 4G bars are lower. I still get 4G but only with 1 to 2 bars now. I am on travel and wonder if the area I am in (Denton, TX). No problems with WIFI. OS speed seems the same (Fast) no changes. I have disabled may of the Verizon bloatware. I tried to root my phone but it failed in Odin at the beginning (Cache), I thought my phone was bricked but was able to recover in Odin to factory OS before todays upgrade to MJE.

how can you tell that you are in a new spectrum area

I don't know, I'm just guessing AND hoping that's the reason for the low bars, I'll know more when I get back home (Houston)

so this update does not erase anything on the phone. does it?

Nope not at all. It is just like updating an application. The only thing is you can't use your phone during the install and it reboots.

After this update my phone no longer responds to Hi Galaxy when screen off - it only responds if I open S Voice app.

Did it turn off the hands free during the update for you? Did you go into check your settings.

I didn't have hands free mode ever on and it worked perfectly until yesterday (in fact, even activating while picking up TV dialog). All my S Voice settings are on but phone no longer responds unless I open the app.

I just read a post on androidforums from someone who stated they have the same issue that started after the new update also.

Consistently hitting 18-25mbps down and 8-10mbps up since yesterday's update here in St. Louis area, both at home, at work, and at several other job sites. This is about 2-3X faster than my normal speeds. Very, very happy with this update.

Just got 61.34 Mbps and a touch over 12 for upload. Yeah, it's late nite but still...best I had gotten was 39 in the day. I'll check it out tomorrow in the afternoon and report back.

61 is amazeballs, no matter how close I live to the antenna, and no matter what time of day it is.

What the hell?? I'm in the Seattle area too. But I don't want to lose the wifi hotspot. But it seems like all I have to do is uninstall and reinstall foxfi. Hmmmm. I don't know what to do.

I forgot to mention my Hotspot is still working after the update. I'm using Foxfi and did not need to uninstall and reinstall. Good luck and enjoy the AWS speed if you decide to pull the trigger!

How do you tell it to never install?
I just get a time to delay 24 hrs at most. Unchecked auto install.

I do not think you can tell it to ignore always especially since Verizon is loading bloatware to attempt to get you to increase how much you pay them. We are a captive audience for their advertising. At least it appears you can turn off most of the new bloat ware on this update.

Generally, if you're not rooted, you can't permanently remove the update notification. Be careful as well, with many of Verizon's updates, you can only defer the installation so many times before it just says "@#$% you!" and installs it anyway while you're sleeping.

Granted, I have an S4 and not a Note3, but here's how I turned off the update check on my rooted phone:
xda-developers - View Single Post - Freeze sdm the second you gain root
I imagine the process on the N3 is pretty similar...

how can you tell that you are in a new spectrum area

This is also for the S4, but see this thread on info on how to check:
[OFFICIAL] AWS thread - where, how fast - xda-developers

Faster after the update here in Nashville. Was in the 20s mostly. Now in the 40s mostly. Former high (I've only had this for a couple of weeks tho) was 39. I hit 61 at 2am. I hadn't run a Speedtest that early in the morning prior to the update so I don't know what the max would have been. Uploads are generally in the 13-15 range. Prior was 4-7 (max of 8) so big improvement there.

If you need hotspot I wouldn't update. Getting more speed won't matter unless your download large files.. Streaming will be the same.
