Verizon offer FREE INC2 or X2

Called last night to inquire about the missed call issue. The woman I spoke with knew what I was talking about right away and offered me an inc2 or x2. Was hoping to get something before I go on vacation so she told me to go to a store to get it done.

Waited at my local store for around 30 minutes, and the rep I spoke with said they can't swap out phones in store.

Called again this morning and I now have an inc2 shipping to me for when I get back from vacation :)
What are people telling the reps. I called and they want to try to troubleshoot my phone first. I have a rooted phone and don''t have the info on the about screen that they will need (other than the rooted info).

The first time I called I really didn't have to say anything other than I was missing calls on my phone. When I called this morning, the tech wanted to troubleshoot. I told him the phone I was calling on was the only phone I had to call from, so he went ahead and asked what phone I wanted to exchange it for.

I called V and spent about 15 minutes with level 1 Tech Spt going through their trouble shooting check sheet to determine cause of missed calls. Finally she gave up and sent me to a Tier 2 person who said there is a knownn issue with the Fascinate and immediately offered me the 3 choices - DX2, DINC2 & Charge. I took the Charge. I guess it all depends who you get on the line.

Reporting back here... Got my Charge ordered today.

After following the tech's troubleshooting over the phone two days ago, I did some test calls and still missed a call. So I called again this morning, first guy (dialed 0 to get operator, I don't know what department he worked in) had no idea what I was talking about with regard to a replacement phone.

He transferred me to tech support who was very helpful and right away offered me the 3 replacement phone options. He did specify that if I wanted the Charge, I would have to go to a local Verizon store. Then he proceeded to 'recommend' the Incredible 2, saying he had personal experience with it. I told him I would like the Charge. His reply, "Of course you would like the Charge", since it is 4G. Rep gave me a case # in case I ran into any troubles at the store.

Okay, arrive at the Verizon store, and the rep, also very helpful, is fully aware of this problem and does not bat an eye at the replacement. But informs me that it will ship overnight from Tennessee (even though they had 'lots of Charges' in stock at that store). When I asked why I had to go to the Verizon store for them to put the order through, he replied that it was due to a problem with their system that Verizon support techs couldn't order the Charge for me over the phone.

I'm wonder if Verizon is making this extra hoop for people to go through in order to discourage people from getting the Charge as their replacement, unless they absolutely want it. I suppose so, since current price in store is still $299 with contract, wowza.

So I guess it does depend on which rep you get on the phone. Called for the 3rd time and it was a piece of cake. After going into the store and playing with both phones it was clear that the DInc2 was the better phone for me (even though I have 4G in my area - kind of done with Samsung phones). It was weird though that my friend got his shipped next day for free and mine will arrive in 3-5 business days. Just wanted to note my experience.

The first tech I talked to said I could have gotten it shipped next day for free if I had insurance on the phone. Kind of made me wish I had it lol ;)

Well I was a little different. I Love the form factor of this phone. I Did not want a Dinc of or an X2. The charge intrigued me simply for the LTE radio. but I did not like the increase in size. I was having some of the missed call issues, but did not want to flash the new leaked release with all the Verizon Crapware.

SOOOOO, i instead decided to flash the MIUI 1.7.22 Rom and the Glitch Kearnal from XDA. OK I love my phone again. No missed call issue and on of the smoothest user interfaces i have ever seen. Getting quadrant scores of 1800 with no overclocking.

Keeping my phone!!!

So I'm not sure what to do here...I've had the missed calls issue, among other minor but ongoing issues, and I get frustrated quickly with stuff like that. So this has not been a happy marriage at times. But I also LOVE this baby for it's form factor and screen. I called VZW support last night, and we walked through the typical stuff. They seemed to think all was good. But I already missed another call today, and I've had to pull the battery once again today to unfreeze the device. I'm stock, don't want to root to attempt to fix my device, just don't have the time or patience to be honest. I know it would be a whole new love affair if I rooted, but I just don't think that should be necessary. I started with the Continuum, my first Android device, which I traded in for the Fascinate...but I must admit, as much as I love this thing for all it's uniquely-Fascinate physical beauty, it has not been very stable. So, not sure, not sure, not sure...

Well, the boys over at XDA have ED05 (2.2.2) leak which reports over the last 2 days have shown to eliminate the missed calls issue....and some are also reporting substantially better battery (that's running it completely stock w/ all the bloat). Give VZW a week. I have a good feeling that, given the reported stability (people are saying it's super smooth) and the fact that it appears to have fixed the call issue, VZW will be OTA'ing it very soon. Again, just my pure speculation.

@lpt2569: I hear you, man. The problem is that you're talking about it like a marriage. As far as I can tell, this love affair is only going one way. Yes, your Fascinate really does not have any feelings for you! So remember, your phone is a servant, intended to work for you 24/7 and never complain. When it's not that way, it is very frustrating.

By the way, the screen on the Charge is, actually, even more stunning than the Fascinate. At $300 with contract, this is is the most top-of-the-line phone that Verizon currently has to offer, and they're letting us have it free of Charge. The fact that the Charge is a Droid-branded phone leads me to believe that support for this phone is going to be a better story than the Fascinate.

Honestly i thought the increase in size from the fassy was gonna bug me. Especially with the small hump on the back bottom of the charge. I was also dreading the slight V shape to the bottom. Turns out that they are actual pluses when you get used to them. It makes the phone a bit easier to hold in one hand and even though I dont do it, someone said that the hump helps when they are streaming music (it isnt muffled because it isnt flat). the size difference really is negligible

For those concerned about the increased size of the Charge, keep in mind that the current 4" screen on the Fascinate is surrounded by a considerable border. Check out these photos of the Charge and Fascinate superimposed on each other: Samsung Fascinate vs Samsung Droid Charge - Phone Comparison - The Phone Database

Just my 2 cents (from someone who's held/used both) but approx 1/8 of an inch less bezel doesn't make up for 1/3 of an inch more screen. Unless my thumb grows, that extra 5/24's (approx 1/5 of an inch) of screen still results in my need for a second hand for operation instead of just one.

In short....test it out in store if at all possible, because if your thumb length is on the edge, you'll be surprised how much difference that extra 1/5 actually makes.

Yeah I thought the charge would bug me as well....wrong...the size is great...had a body glove case on my fascinate so the charge was not as easy to use til I got one for it....can use the charge one handed no problem and with the case the bottom is flat....no missed calls....no more phantom button issues....no random screen captures....I rooted this 5 hours after I got it....I'm loving it so far....

I am still deciding on a case for mine. I need one with a kickstand and there are few options out there.

After calling the tech support 4 times and running to 3 different vzw stores I was finally able to get my droid charge shipped out. Good thing is that they were all aware of this missed call issue of the fascinate and I did not have to do any troubleshooting what so ever. Problem was that the vzw stores can not ship out the droid charge to my address and that it would have to be done at the warehouse after calling tech support. From the view of the tier 2 tech reps the phone would have to be shipped from a nearby vzw store so there was confusion between the two. Im truly gonna miss the fassy and I want to thank everyone and all the devs for their hard work and help to make my experience with this phone the utter most best! Now what to do with all these fascinate accessories....
