Verizon S3: How to get back to previous version and radios

Re: How to get back to previous version and radios

I successfully downgraded VRBMB3 to VRBMB1. 4G speeds are great again and I'm reluctant to apply the new VRBMF1 update that Verizon is pushing out.

Has anyone still on MB1 taken the MF1 plunge yet? I'm going on a trip this weekend and don't want to dork up my phone before so I deferred MF1 until next Monday.

Its now being pushed to GS3s with no reject option  Your choices are to let it download and install immediately or to defer it for a maximum of 5 days

I downgraded to MB1 like you did. I waited on this update to read the boards but finally took it on Wednesday. It works great. IMO it might even be better than MB1 on both connection and juice. YMMV

Re: How to get back to previous version and radios

I was hoping that someone who flashed back to the previous stock build successful could help me out.
I followed the directions to the letter, but I keep getting a Fail on the Odin screen. I tried downloading the firmware from the link a total of 3 times with the same results.
My phone shows up on com 3 instead of com7 like in the tutorial. I am also not rooted. Do either of these things matter? Thanks for any help you guys can provide.

Hey nick,
I believe that COM is just referring to the USB port that you plugged your phone in :o I would suggest you try to plug your phone in one of the USB ports in the back of your computer, as those are more reliable and see if that works :) also, check the wire too if it still works. One time I tried to flash something using odin and it fails because the wire I used was flimsy and unreliable

What "new update" are you referring to? I'm not aware of any updates for Verizon S3s that came out recently.

What "old version" is it that you want to get back to?

You need to be more specific - what model/carrier/firmware do you have?
Have you tried a Factory Reset since this update?
Have you tried clearing the system cache in Recovery mode?

Since I doubt that you're connecting your phone directly to a DSL connection, I can only assume that you're describing a problem with your Wi-Fi connection.

Common solutions:
- remove the SSID from the phone and then add it back
- restart the router
- check the security type on the router: the Galaxy S3 seems quite picky about this

Can you connect to Wi-Fi in other locations (McDonald's, Starbucks, etc)? If so, the problem is likely your router security setting.

Re: How to get back to previous version and radios

My mate's Verizon S3 got the 4.3 update a couple weeks ago, and she's been pretty unhappy with it so far. Anyone know if the roll back methods listed here still work to roll back to the prior version? I did read that Verizon removed the ability to reject an update (such a smart move, right? ), but I'll look into rooting and preventing OTA if I can roll it back.

There's one method posted http://forums.androidcentral.com/showthread.php?p=3408870 to reload the 4.1.2 firmware on top of the Knox-modified bootloader, but it's not possible to do a complete rollback.

Not true - there were several ways to prevent an OTA from loading: rooting and making slight modification being foremost among them, but you could also let the OTA download and then reboot into Recovery mode and wipe the cache (which deleted the actual update.zip file) and then tell the update to proceed, which would fail since the update.zip couldn't be found - then you wouldn't be bothered again.
