Verizon S3 or AT&T S3?

All of the posts regarding discounts for AT&T are incorrect (I am a supervisor for AT&T Mobility). AT&T discounts the rate plan on an individual plan or the primary line on a family talk/business talk group plan. They also discount any data plan higher than the base one (formerly 250MB, now 300MB). That's it. Features are not discounted. That includes messaging, subscriptions, international long distance or roaming, overage, etc.

Thanks for clarifying. Can you tell me if you discount unlimited messaging on a family plan? Also, are all the data plans on a family plan discounted if they are higher than the base one?

Thanks

Good news and bad news. Bad news first: no, AT&T doesn't discount any features, including the unlimited family messaging. Good news: yes, AT&T does discount all data plans on the account if they are above the base plan. This is usually where most of the discount on accounts ends up coming from, and why they usually beat Verizon's discount. If all of the phones on an account will be smartphones (like the original poster's example) AT&T would easily be the better choice.

I also want to clarify that AT&T doesn't discount unlimited voice plans.

Funny thing though...I actually prefer T-Mobile for my personal phones lol.

I am leaving Sprint and their slow ass network behind. The only choice I have to make is whether to go with AT&T or VZW. Right now my gf has VZW and I can join her plan if I want to. Or I can go with AT&T. The coverage area around me seems to be pretty similar. The one thing I have a question about is the discounted lines.

VZW only discounts the primary line. it doesn't discount any data plans, text messaging options or other features. Can someone tell me if I get a 24% discount on AT&T do they discount everything 24% or do they only discount the first line and but not data, or what?

AT&T are you kidding me, you can't make phone calls with AT&T. They suck do your self a favor and go with vzw. You will enjoy fast data speed and plus you can make a phone call with your vzw s3!!!!!!

Here's a joke for you, what can you do with a vzw iPhone that you can't do with a AT&T iPhone: make a phone call!!! Lol

I notice he asked a quest s3 at&t or vzw but he put it in a at&t thread but never in a vzw thread I wonder?

One thread is enough for me. I will use the probationary period to decide if AT&T will or won't work but they get the first chance. If not then VZW will get my money, and which at this point t it seems like that's all they care about.

Maybe a better question would be why is a vzw fanboy in the AT&T forum?

At&t discounts off of data if it's the 5GB plan which costs $50. So instead, you'll be paying $38 for it.

Prior to actually hassling to setup an account and get a phone from either company, I would suggest (if it's practical) you bum a phone off of some buddies and test out both networks in places you will likely use them often. Namely, at home and at work.

Fanboy ranting from either side not withstanding, it doesn't matter who claims they have the best network if you don't get reliable reception in the places you plan to use it.

I have a question for you, how's your data speed when you're Not in an LTE area?

I just moved to at&t from sprint. In my area the coverage between at&t and Verizon is about the same. Reason I went for at&t was the any mobile to any mobile.

Everyone i know is on cell phones and that's a biggie for me.

I can't relate to this.

I'm not saying it isn't important for you, I'm just saying that I couldn't fathom the missery of having to talk on the phone that much each month so as to even come close to worrying about all my minutes.

You must not have several women in your house on a family plan. LOL

The discounting must vary based on the corporate contract or something; my VZ discount is 26% off of any charge that hits the first line, so everything for my plan (family share w/ unl. txt) and my data is included in the discount, so the only thing that isn't discounted are the extra lines which are just $10/mo anyway (with the old VZ share plan.) Who knows what that will look like when the VZ plans change to "share everything", but for now it's pretty sweet (I save about $34/mo).

Well my gf (we live together) has VZW so I already know they have good coverage, including 4G/LTE in my area. One of my best friends has AT&T and he lives 5 or 6 miles away and he suppsoedly has good coverage too. I will ask him to come over and then I will chekc out his coverage at my house. I am lucky enough to live less than a mile from where I work so if the coverage is good at my house and at my work I'll be fine.

Maybe you are grandfathered in but I know that's not the way it works any longer. My gf works for Chase bank, which is big obviously, and she has the same type of discount for VZW. It is 24% off the first voice line and the rest is full price. I wish I could get a discount plan like yours. :-[

Weeeeird. Maybe it has to do with total phones on contract? Ours used to be 24% off all first-line charges, until about 2 years ago when it bumped up to 26% off all first line charges and 25% off all accessories. I have had it for the 7 years ive been with this corp (a multinational with 60k US employees).

Damn, that's a lot of employees. I guess your extraordinary discounts may very well be due to the size of your company.

You also have to think about fallback. Eventually AT&T will have a very large LTE network..

When you lose LTE signal on AT&T, you fall back to "4G"(HSPA+) which in itself is very fast, 8Mbps or higher.

When you lose LTE signal on Verizon, you fall back to 3G which is insanely slow compared to LTE.

What you neglect to mention is HSPA+ is not widespread by any means. So, chances are you will not fall back to it. Secondly, ATT's 4g network is barely off the ground.

On the other hand VZ already has very good LTE coverage (300+ cities) and continues to expand at an alarming rate.

With VZ fallback is not really going to be a big issue.

Check this out for eligibility on AT&T Premier:

https://www.wireless.att.com/business/authenticate/

That will tell you if you qualify.

If coverage isn't an issue, I'd go with AT&T. You'll have a much smoother data experience with them due to HSPA+ and LTE. Verizon will have more LTE coverage but the second you step out of LTE you'll be on a very slow 3G network compared to AT&T's which can theoretically pull 21Mbps.

Since a cell contract is 2 years you'll want to see how much you'll be spending in the long run. Take all your services and plan prices and multiple that by 24 and then do the same for Verizon. If Verizon is cheaper with your discount then go with them. Assuming you get a discount from AT&T and the coverage is there with them, go the AT&T route.

Hope this helps.

I agree with the pricing. However HSPA+ won't even come close to 21mbps. Backbone sure. End user speeds during off peak times maybe you'll squeeze a 5mbps download speed. And as I posted already LTE coverage will not be a big issue.

Everyone seems to forget that VZ's LTE footprint will duplicate their 3G print.

This is completely correct. Not only that, but on Verizon the network doesn't handoff/step up seamlessly. Once you drop down to 3G during a data session it will not step back up to 4G during the same data session. On AT&T you have the same issue on step up, but handoff is seamless, and in some areas the difference in speed between LTE and HSPA+21 is negligible. If AT&T decides to also upgrade their switches to handle HSPA+42 then all bets are off, as that would cover nearly everywhere AT&T provides service in the US with high-speed data. MTCW

They haven't even done that with HSPA+ as it stands today. So, your suggesting they will up the anti again on the 3G side??? And build out LTE??? What's wrong with that picture. Pay to build a new network (LTE) and continue to upgrade the old one. I wouldn't hold my breathe on that one.

It doesn't make good business sense.

That is exactly right. The discounts are negotiated with each individual business with their sales rep based on what amount of revenue that company is willing to guarantee. I've seen companies offering their employees 8% to as much as 50%.
