Verizon 'significantly altering' unlimited data?

Some people like myself have very poor land line options, with speeds during peak times dipping well below 1mbps

Do you mean DSL? What about cable? The speed of the latter drops here at night, too, but it somehow doesn't stop my two WiFi connected kids from simultaneously playing fast-paced games every evening and half the night.

@ this point, I'm not surprised @ anything that those dummies @ big red do....this is getting ridiculous to be honest. 1st Verizon says all unlimited data users will have a "clear road to keep their unlim data," but a few months later, all this has changed. I've made my peace with my situation and when Aug 31st comes, I will not be renewing anything with Verizon . I'm cutting ties for good with Verizon bc it's obvious they are more concerned with changing my plan and making me pay more $ rather than honor the fact that they are the ones who forced us to sign up for unlim data when smart phones 1st came out and now they have had a change of heart. It's all good. Another carrier will be glad to take my money .

What better alternatives are here. in the US, as far as getting BOTH contract purchase price discounts AND unlimited data?

He gets cable -- it is just his area is saturated so during peak times it drops. This happens in big cities for some ISPs.

We paid and went from the "regular" to the highest speed Time Warner offered, but the kids saw no difference. They had a problem with packet loss, so we had to go through a number of makers and models of routers. The last one seems to work okay.

Yeah so for your area it is fine -- but his it may not be ;).

That was with twc 50 mbps package.

I'm not even concerned about keeping my # @ this point .....but thanks for the suggestion . I know T-Mobile and other companies offer incentives if you port your # ...

I'm not sure about other alternatives, but as I have mentioned in a previous post, Verizon won't take my $ but another cell provider will :-)

And in my area it's so saturated , the only time I would get decent speeds is real late @ nite or super early in the morning :-(

Oh I was just mentioning it. I have one of the easiest numbers ever so I refuse to give it up :D.

Is there any other way to see if Verizon is going to cut you off of unlimited besides a letter in the mail? My mail still gets sent to my parents' house and I don't see a good portion of it. I went over there last night to sort through some of my mail but I didn't find anything from Verizon. Really hope I'm not being cut off but I don't want to wait a month to find out.

You can contact Verizon, they should be able to tell you

I think you can also login to My Verizon online and see copies of all the communications Verizon has sent.

That's what I was kind of hoping for. I don't see where to check for that, though.

What's your average per month?

I'm not sure, but probably over 100GB. I'm at almost 57GB so far this month with 9 days left but I tried to take it a little easier this month. I know I've hit over 100GB in a month several times in the past.

Is this with phones or data only devices? I know they're going after data only devices pretty hard.

Phones. What do you mean by data-only devices? Tablets included, or just hotspots?

I do tether a lot, but almost exclusively to tablets and other phones. I rarely use my laptop.
