Verizon update 8 (August) broke our phones

If it was just text, I'd live with it. but I cannot make/receive calls in its current state.

ODIN seems to be a bit of a unicorn on MAC laptops. Found JOdin3, but cannot get that to work. I have a windows image installed in a VirtualBox image, but having problems with that.

That's one of the reasons I always have a good working backup phone around. Use the backup till they roll out a fix for the main phone ;) which is especially important if you can't even make calls on the main phone

The pixel 6a is a great phone for the money if someone needed a good backup ;)

This is why I have updates blocked on my phone. I wait a couple weeks or so before allowing the update to go thru, to see if there are any issues such as this. OS updates I usually wait longer to update as there's usually always issues after them.

How are you blocking them? Package Pro disabler or Alliance Shield? Or another method?

Successfully reloaded the prior version on my wifes S22+, she has the phone, and not complaining. As for doing it from my MACbook, it worked fine from a windows virtual box image. the hardest part was finding a good site to download the image from. They all charge money. The first one charged $8 for a month, but tried to charge my CC $358 and i was promptly notified of a fraud alert. Found another site for $2 per image and took paypal. Sheesh....

I'll wait as my replacement phone is coming today. we'll see whats loaded onto it. I just hope a fix comes along before the update is forced onto my phone. I'll have to look into Alliance shield I guess.

I think SamMobile keeps a repository of the images?

yea found that one, but site is a bit wonky with regards to signing up. I ended up getting from fullstockfirmware mostly because they accept paypal, and not require the actual CC info which is what burned me. BTW the site that caused the fraudulent transaction was samfrew.com

Alliance shield

I have installed Alliance shield. What exactly do I need to do to disable the updates? Not going to do it forever, but want a fair bit of time to pass before I put another update on.

She's already getting the notification to put the Update 8 on.

I just turn this on. I selected some on another phone so don't know if it carries over or not.

Mustang might know more or try selecting that, it tells me I disabled updates and in settings the software updates are grayed out.

thank-you for that. I was thinking I had to into app manager and find the actual app name doing it.

I just know I select that and auto updates are disabled, when I want to update I just turn that off first. I won't get notified of updates if I have it turned on.

First time I did this someone talked me thru what to select, on new phones I just have to do the shield on or off. I don't know of they made it automatic now by just pushing that button to disable updates or settings are just following my phone's.

Some will probably chime in, just don't disable things, you can screw up your phone.

So i turned shield on, but the notification is still there, and i believe would install if I clicked OK. Ive rebooted as well and no difference.

My issues with the last update seem to have disappeared. Anybody else?

So, the saga continues. New phone is operational, back on Verizon update 7. The problem is still occurring. I am out of idea's. must be something in their system in this area. I guess I have to call back in to their tier 2 support to have them figure out what is going on.

All,

Just reporting here that verizon update 8 seems to have broken my s22u, and my wife's s22+. Symptoms are that people we are talking to cannot hear us, or choppy. Text messages don't always come through. Reboot the phone, and they all come.

Already tried clearing cache, factory reset, then called vzw support, they reset network settings. Problem occurs on wifi, network extender, and in other locations(not home, or anywhere near home).

Vzw thought my phone was bad, and are sending me replacement under warranty, my wifes phone was fine, but then overnight my wife's s22+ got the update 8, and now her phone has same problems.

Sometimes a reboot allows my phone to work for a few hours, then goes bad, other times a reboot makes no difference.

Now am researching Odin, and reloading update 7.

Any others seen this?View attachment 348362

Under app manager search software update and disable both there or in my screenshot circle Screenshot_20220911_162321_Alliance%20Shield%20X.jpg
