Verizon Version info from Google Rep...

Um, no. I have run both VZW and AT&T (GoPhone) in identical places. There have been a few places where AT&T had better coverage than Verizon, but I had huge dead areas on AT&T where I had LTE on Verizon.

If Fi works for you, great.

What do you mean no. I had Verizon and the place I was working was a complete dead zone. I switched to Fi and had awesome service.

As expected Verizon controls OS updates but as usual people will still buy from the useless carrier even though the real version is available from Google store and then complain Google is not pushing updates to Verizon model...smh

VZW and Google offer monthly payment plans. VZW loads 3 crapware on it and updates needs approvals from VZW. Google version takes a few days to get but updates from Google and no crapware. I cant see any reason to buy from VZW.

I think some people have an easier time adding to their Verizon bill than opening a new line of credit.

Will VZW features like advanced calling. Wifi calling. Simultaneous talk and data in lte be possible? Wifi hotspot etc.

A big reason is the fact that the Device protection from the Google store doesn't cover loss and theft, while the Verizon protection does. Sometimes Verizon doesn't let you add their coverage to BYODs.

And like Aquila said, I'd rather tack something on my Verizon bill then have Google hit my credit.

I Buy phones on contract because I get no discount for going off contract on my legacy Verizon plan

Thats true. Especially if a device is close to $1k, a $199 deductible is easier to swallow then $1k.

The part of your previous post where you said all services were "basically the same." I took that to mean coverage and usability.

Absolutely not...carriers have different coverage... You need to pick what works best for you

This thread is about the Verizon version. You should start your own thread if you are wondering about availability elsewhere

The advantages of buying from Verizon:
* They may enable wifi-calling, VoLTE, and HD Voice.
* You can buy a full-coverage insurance plan
The disadvantages of BYOD
* They may not enable wifi-calling, VoLTE, and HD Voice.
* They may not push any updates.

Case in point... The Blackberry Priv.
* They have not enabled wifi calling, VoLTE, or HD Voice on either approach.
* They have not pushed any updates since the April patches they pushed in June. These include 317 security patches (including many that NIST has listed as level 5 or higher). The patches also include moving from Lollipop to Marshmallow. There were also patches to resolve overheating and other critical issues. If you had a BYOD from the Blackberry shop then you have all the patches. BTW, patches stopped 4 months after introducing the Priv on the Verizon network, that's just unethical.

I will NEVER buy through Verizon again. In fact, their answers to why they stopped sending patches were all over the map:
* You have the latest patches.
* Blackberry doesn't have any monthly patches.
* Blackberry never sent us the patches.
* There was a problem in the patches so we rejected them.
* We're about to release them "soon".
* Since your phone makes calls and texts we don't need to send you patches.
