Verizon Version info from Google Rep...

One of the biggest factors in me buying a Nexus 5X was to be guaranteed updates were delivered and promptly too, so unless you are already chained to a Verizon contract I wouldn't consider purchasing a Pixel that way. Why add a middleman to important updates? If you have decent Sprint and T-Mo coverage where you need to use the phone try Project fi and enjoy the best phone service experience available. The only downside is that pricing isn't the best if you use more than a few GB per month. It's actually a pleasure to read my monthly statement from fi, which fits neatly onto a single smartphone screen--that alone is worth ditching your major carrier plan.

And the AC contest is coming into the home stretch. I never win these things but you never know.

Haven't tried Fi yet, but I know a guy who has it. The trouble is whether or not I can convince the Mrs. to convert.

My bill went from over $100/month to about $35-$40. I've never had a bad service issue with Fi. Been on it for over a year now. Love it!

I realize that a lot of people hate Verizon and blame Verizon for updates and removing functions, BUT how about Google? Why are they so easy to let carriers do this? Why aren't more of you mad at the manufacturer? Other carriers do these things, but there's only ONE manufacturer that doesn't get pushed around and that's Apple.

If Apple can make it happen, Then why can't Samsung, Google, LG do the same?

Listen, Maybe Google will work with Verizon to get these updates out quick. Verizons track record hasn't been that great, but this is a new partnership and maybe both sides with surprise us.

Point is... Point the finger at the manufacturer, They need to start growing some Balls. If Google wasn't ok with Verizon handling updates and bootloader being locked, Then Google could have withdrew the Pixel and did what they've always done and sold it on their Store, Amazon, Best buy and others.

Definitely... why would Google go to bed with the red devil? I can almost guarantee that the updates for Verizon will be delayed.

How can you guarantee? Verizon has actually been better with updates than others.

Because it's easy to call out Verizon, and call them names, and keep giving them your money. Parallels to abusive relationships I guess.

If people want Verizon to change, leave Verizon.

All these carriers (and phone manufacturers) are for-profit companies. Their goal isn't to break even on the goods and services they provide.

I will say that Verizon's leadership has turned over like 100% in the last couple years (the highest of the high too). Last year they made some vowel to improve updates or whatever. And ya know what, my Verizon Note 5 was the first to get Marshmallow (sp?).

Point being - I really do anticipate non-issue from big red on this. HOWEVER - I didn't take that chance and bought from Google. Hahaha. But I suspect that in a year from now we'll all be impressed at Verizon. I really do.

Also - wasn't it the op of this thread that mentioned how Cloud and Messages+ are actually liked apps from "Joe Average" consumer? I mean its 3 apps... And one if which allows free TV streaming on the network. :)

I didn't say guarantee.... I said almost guarantee. Because Faster than some sure. Faster or equivalent to direct from Google for a Google phone? I don't see it. Of course anything can happen, I just highly doubt it .

Updates on my Note5 for the last year have been MUCH faster than previous years and previous phones.

Do you know how many people come in with issues on the their phone, because updates are forced? Seriously, Apple is one of the worst with bugs and problems, some of the updates from Google that Samsung pushes quickly are right behind. You guys don't understand, because you don't hear about it on these sites. I'm ok if updates take a little longer just to ensure they don't ruin people's phone.

And don't tell me that all the Nexus phones were perfect after being updated, because they weren't. I owned the 6, 6p and 5x. There were issues as well.

The Blackberry Priv says the same thing but Verizon won't enable it. There are always disclaimers at the bottom of the page to allow them to do this.
Blackberry, you mean the company that's giving up on phones? Google isn't going to sit back like blackberry is.

Fell for the headlines? BB is outsourcing the manufacture of it's phones, not giving up phones. They have a two new phones announced, one with a BB designed keyboard. As for disabling features for BYOD phones, there are lots of other examples.

What's Verizon do for the Verizon branded Priv devices? I think they're saying that the Verizon sold (purchased at Best Buy or direct from Verizon) Pixel phones will have those Verizon features and that the ones purchased from Google will have fewer.

The long story is that Verizon has Wifi calling and Advanced LTE options listed on the Priv's specs. They have enabled Advanced LTE, but not Wifi calling. Unfortunately, I can't even use VoLTE on my Priv because the network around my house is flaky and Verizon sent a 3g femtocell. If I don't disable VoLTE (on all my phones) then it won't hook up to the femtocell. With wifi calling I wouldn't need the femtocell at all. Verizon has promised to enable Wifi calling "soon" for 8 months. BTW, the Priv's wifi calling works on all other networks.
