Verizon Visual Voice Mail for Nexus app not working.

As I said in my post, it was doing this even with "straight to voicemail" enabled.
Setting GV as my VM service on the phone solved it. It also made it so the basic visual voicemail works on the phone too (no text but can play message without opening GV app).

Yea, I didn't see that.
There is an option in GV Settings that says "View and play voicemails from the phone call log".
If that is checked there is no need to use the GV app and the dialer will have the messages integrated.

Even if Verizon gets their stuff together and releases a working VVM, I really don't care.
Getting my messages transcribed for free and show up as a SMS trumps everything they have.

I've got a 5X on Marshmallow on Verizon, setting it up with unanswered calls going to my Google Voice/Project FI number has worked for me.
And in the current version of Voice on Android the option is View and Play Voicemails... as you said.
I also did the *71 step to send unanswered calls to my Gvoice number and set the Voice app to Do Not Disturb so all calls go straight to vmail.
Now I get integrated vvmail within the dialer, I have 4th icon to the right of the Contacts icon. I can play and delete from the native dialer, and I can see my test transcriptions within the Voice app. It all works surprisingly well, much better than the broken vvmail I had after switching from my Turbo

With this setup, one thing I noticed in the Google Voice app and the Voice Mail tab in the dialer is voicemails don't seem to be synced between them when you have voicemail display checked in the setting of the Google Voice app. When I get a new voicemail it shows up in both places but if I delete it from one place it does not delete from the other. This is annoying to have to delete voicemails from each place separately. Maybe I'm missing something.

I have since unchecked voicemail display check box and just use the Google Voice app for VVM... because it converts the voicemail to text and it's nice to be able to read the message if I want to.

Got this all set up, thanks guys. I was constantly missing VM because I didn't even get notification of a message on Verizon. Now everything is working great.

I did not like the cryptic text messages that I got from Verizon for each voicemail, so I had them turn VMM completely off for my account. Now I am back to basic voicemail which I like much better.

By forwarding my unanswered calls to Google Voice for VVM I not longer get these messages since voicemails are no longer left on Verizon.

Seeing this same behavior, did you find a fix by any chance, other than unchecking the voicemail display checkbox?

Has anyone got the Verizon Visual Voice Mail app to work on the Nexus 6p yet?

I can't get it to work on my Nexus 6P... I even tried upgrading from the basic Visual Voicemail by adding the premium voicemail feature to my account for $2.99 a month, and it still doesn't work for me.

I know there is Google Voice but I don't want to have my number forwarded or moved over to Google Voice... I prefer just to use my Verizon number with their visual voicemail app.

EDIT: There is currently no Visual Voice Mail app that works for the Nexus 6P on Verizon, at least not for Verizon's voicemail service. However, as tech_head below has pointed out, you can forward just your unanswered calls to Google Voice number and use the Google Voice app for VVM by doing the following:

1. Go to https://www.google.com/voice to setup your Google Voice on your Google account if you haven't already done so.

2. Install Google Voice on you phone from play store and set up to use for VVM.

3. From the Google Voice web site select your Google Voice number to edit the settings... on the Voicemail & Text tab record your greeting... then go to back to the main page -> select edit button under your cell number -> Show advanced settings -> forwarding options Click "go straight to voicemail" radio button. (This will send all calls forwarded from your cell to your Google Voice number directly to voicemail). http://www.techerator.com/2009/10/how-to-prevent-extra-rings-using-google-voice-as-voicemail/

4. On your phone dial *71+(Your Google Voice Number) to forward all unanswered calls to Google Voice. (To stop forwarding calls to dial *73 from your phone.) http://www.verizon.com/businessportals/support/features/calling_features/no_answer_transfer.html

Thanks so much for the detailed instructions! It was very helpful for me with setting this up. I appreciate you! :)

Everyone should tweet to Verizon and post in the official Verizon wireless forums and ask Verizon to certify this phone, I've done it already but there needs to be more interest to get them to put a move on it, the unlocked nexus 6 took a year.

I used call forwarding to google voice for awhile, but preferred the generic voicemail greeting on Verizon's system to the greeting on my google voice number. I ended up having the voicemail set to basic so that the gibberish text messages stopped and the actual voicemail icon/notification worked. I had to call technical support a couple of times, because the first person I talked to said that you can't have basic voicemail on a smart phone. The second person that I talked to quickly hooked me up with the basic voicemail service for my account!

I know it's been a while but it looks like VZW has gotten the Nexus 6P in their system. Multiple people report being able to activate them with new SIMs without any issues. Has anyone been able to check to see if VZW has gotten their voicemail servers to work with the integrated marshmallow VVM?

Unfortunately I want enhanced LTE enabled and Verizon told me you can't have basic vm with that so I'm dealing with with the texts for now, I'm not interested in using the Google voice app.

The is currently no VVM on the 6P that integrates with Verizon VM.
If you use GV you do not need to move your number to Google. The only thing you do is forward if not answered to GV to record your message.
You can unforward at any time. It's controlled on the phone.
I use it and it just works.

And it's free.
