Vertical "banding" at low brightness

Banding is present on mine and is a little more prominent than it was on my charge. But OLED screens usually have slight uniformity issues. If you pay attention you will also notice image persistance on these OLED screens. Probably why apple went with IPS on the iphone. IPS doesnt have these issues.

folks, this a very well known issue with samoled plus display lately. if you head over to galaxy s II Skyrocket forum there is a whole thread dedicated to this problem. people in their third replacements still have the same thing. I have the same thing happening with my Skyrocket as well . it is visible only in dark room while looking at dark backround or watching a movie. This issue however has not been reported among OG galaxy s II users. I was specifically reading Galaxy Nexus forum for the past two days just to see if this thread will come up. It doesnt bother me at all the skyrocket's screen is still fantastic and I'll be heading to verizon store tomorrow to check out the Nexus. but this problem appears to be either the manufacturer defect or the special nature of samoled plus technology which doesnt explain btw why OG GSII doesnt have that.

Wow you guys were so right! The Nexus screen is so much better than my terrible rezound screen! /sarcasm. that's for all the trolling, suckers!

What is your problem? For me it is better than the Thunderbolt and even the Rezound. After I took the screen protector off it became the best looking screen I've ever seen.

At anywhere over 10% brightness it blows away any screen I've ever seen. Do you seriously hang out in forums of phones you're not interested in just to troll?

yes. Do me a favor, zoom in as close as you can get to text.. Jaggy lines? Pixelation? Thought so.

Haha I come from the land of the bionic and let me tell you, the grass is greener. I tried to love it but I am glad I swapped this at Costco. Good bye bionic. hello galaxy. The screen is amazing and it puts the gs2 and IP to shame. Even at low light it's better than the moto screens by far.

I vouch that, had those phones. The nexus screen is sick good.

I can notice it a little with solid gray screens but I also think the auto brightness is a tad on the dim side and if it was not it would not be as noticeable. All screens have imperfections but overall I think this screen is rather nice.

Just throwing it out there that ive noticed the exact same problems on my screen as described in this thread. As I type this with a bright window behind me I can barely see it at all.

My vision is very good so I tend to hold the screen very close because I can see the details. Unfortunately in dark areas im holding futher away so i dont see the grainyness.

This is something I can live with. It gives it a sort of newspaper look and if you turn the brightness up it goes away.

I must have been having a slightly different "banding" issue with my galaxy nexus in the images I posted, then. Exchanged it today, and the new phone has no such problem.

So the problem the you showed in those pictures is gone completely, or is it just less noticeable in the new phone? Mine looks just like that (it shows up on the lower brightness setting, and it's more noticeable on white and grey screens). Did you see if the store demo unit also had that problem? Thanks

I keep my brightness set to around 40-50%. After reading this thread I turned it down to 10, no issue, then turned it down as far as I could and still see it. No banding. Went to email which has a white background. No banding. Looks like luck of the draw. I love this phone.

The new one still has the "newspaper" look, and low brightness gradient banding , which is fine. The vertical banding i had been getting must have been different, or just particularly egregious because i could see it at all brightness levels, and in things like the row of blue buttons at the top of the facebook app. It doesnt appear on the new phone at any brightness. Maybe i just got a particularly good one this time ;) I didnt check the demo unit, but the customer service rep did (i probably would have if they gave me a hard time about exchanging it, but they didnt). If its bothering you, i wouldnt hesitate to take it back and investigate.
