Vertical "banding" at low brightness

I'm not sure whether to make a new thread about this or just reply to this one, so I'll start here. My Galaxy Nexus's screen has a yellow tint at the top which decreases toward the bottom. The bottom seems pretty much clear, or might have a slightly blue tint. If I use a dead pixel detector, it is less apparent, but in some programs, such as Gmail and Facebook, it is rather noticeable. It is at the absolute top (the same physical part of the telephone) no matter which viewing angle; in fact, if I turn it on its side, it seems even more noticeable (and it's on the left or right, depending on which side the 'top' is). I am considering taking my G.N. to a Verizon store to compare it to a display model. Sometimes it bothers me strongly, but sometimes I don't notice it as much, or rationalize it by thinking that all screens appear to have darker and lighter sections.

Has anyone noticed a similar effect/fault?

I had a tint on the bottom right. I also had vertical banding on the right side of my screen. Swapped it for a second Nexus today. I think the manufacture date might be older than my last phone, hope it's not worse than before. Some say it's poor quality control, some say they don't get banding at all, but others say it's part of the warm AMOLED design. I'm still trying to rationalize it myself.

My eyes are very sensitive to things like this and my screen has none of these problems. So I doubt it is part of the AMOLED design.

If your screen has a yellow tint it is defective. Take it back and they will give you a new one. I just noticed lastbweek that my wifes phone had a yellow tint to the whites and the colors were not as vibrant as mine ....blacks were not as black.....took it in and thwy sent me a new one.

Take it back by all means as many times as you have to do so. I got lucky with my first exchange. There's no more vertical banding at low brightness, and the yellowish tint is now gone.

My second phone is near-perfect. The vertical banding is gone and the yellow tint has disappeared. If you are not satisfied and under warranty, I urge you to take yours back til you get satisfaction.

I'm having the same problem as the OP -- banding, not graininess. It's more apparent with solid colors, and when you swipe a screen left and right you see that the banding is stationary while everything else slides "under" it. I took some pics of a flat grey image viewed fullscreen in the gallery app @ a low brightness setting to try and illustrate the problem. It's more prevalent in the top half, and is less noticeable above 50% brightness, but still always visible. The final pic is when the display gets very dark a few seconds before going to sleep. The graininess is just a result of taking a low-light picture, it's the vertical lines/striations that are bugging me.

:'(

I just got my phone yesterday and I (and my wife) both are having the same, exact issue. We both have that line toward the right side with auto-brightness on.

What should we do about this now? Should we be taking it back? Or, are all of them like this?

Plus, they put on the Zagg protector for me. I would hope that they wouldn't charge me to replace that as well. That wouldn't be fair of Best Buy to do so.

Is it even worth trying? Maybe I will go to Verizon and see their demo phone, and check out Best Buy's as well.

Can someone please offer some feedback? Thanks a lot.

I had this issue with my first unit = Took it back to Verizon store. Opened a second in the store = Same problem. Opened a third in the store = Perfect.

Don't take no for an answer until you get a unit that meets your expectations. Make sure you do this within your 14 day return window period, if at all possible.

Will it go away after a little bit of time, or if it's there, it's there to stay?

I think it may be going away (second day in).

By the way, my battery dropped to 78%, from 100%, following a factory reset, and doing nothing.
