Virgin Mobile's 4g

So maybe I confused the Sprint LTE press release with the Virgin Wimax press release, but I had been under the impression that Sprint was carrying over the unlimited data caps on Wimax to Virgin.

I bring this up because I just saw commercial that the fine print specifically states that the 2.5 GB cap is in place. (Screen grab attached). Am I the only one who thought otherwise?

Note: this doesn't affect my decision one way or the other since I am almost always on wifi.

The way I understand it it's 2.5gigs on 3G only and 4G in unlimited on wimax or 10 gigs as some have mentioned in other post in other forums.. We will see as the smoke clears..

Yeah that's what I thought too, but it appears that once again Virgin can't keep their policies consistent across advertising mediums.

Jez with everything I have seen on this Evo V launch nothing would surprise me with VM and their ability to piss more ppl off lol..

That was as ugly a launch with messed up info coming out as I have seen in a while personally.. But when 3rd world country run the boards we should probably be happy it works at all lol.. Who cares for $35 a month..

Wow.

A guy asks for speeds and there's not a single post with benchmarks in this thread. Stay classy, guys.

Area: Metro Chicago.

3G: 198 ping, 235kbps Down, 102kbps Up.

4G: 85ms ping, 6610kbps Down, 1061kbps Up.

Atlanta - Alpharetta
Down. Up. Ping.
3G 1951kbps. 684kbps. 145ms
4G 11962kbps. 1717 kbps. 73ms

Lincoln NE

7meg down
.48meg up

and my signal was only fair
speed should be faster when i have a chance to test within view of wimax tower

Wow these speeds are amazing compared to the 568 Kbps 236 up I'm getting on my Optimus V. Wow. The Evo V 4G is a definite must buy this summer.

It's worth the extra $5 most people will have to pay for doing a phone swap. That is, if you're in a WiMax area.

Some of us don't want a different phone....mine is rooted and I get free hotspot....with pretty good speeds....

Anyone in the Jackson/Ridgeland (MS) area that can test their 4G signal? I'm thinking of making the switch from Verizon to VM, but if I can't get a solid 4G signal it won't be worth it.

I did several tests at once, each on a different server location to benchmark from. Gives you an idea of how much tests can vary depending on which server you're using. The ones at 3,386 and 3,548kbps were actually to a server in a different state.

9491 kbps is my "high score". I get poor WiMAX reception in my apartment, which doesn't matter since I'm on wifi anyway, but even being in a basement in an area with strong WiMAX signal, I get at least 2000 kbps.

Yeah it isn't LTE speed, but there isn't really anything you would be doing with LTE speeds that you can't do with WiMAX, and it seems to have decent enough battery life.

Dang you people make me sick. Virgins 3G is literally 1/100th the speed you guys have:p
