Voicemails from blocked caller ids do not get forwarded to phone

Hi all, I need help.

I have a stock, unrooted Epic 4g still on Froyo (I have not received the OTA yet).

For the past month, I have noticed that voicemails left by people who call me from a blocked caller ID (i.e, a restricted phone number or a number that is not displayed for the incoming caller) do not get forwarded/pushed to my phone. That is, they leave a voicemail, but I do not get any voicemail notification or any indication on the Visual Voicemail icon that there is a voicemail waiting for me. As a result, I end up finding out about these voicemails days later (when I call my cell number and check my voicemails the old fashioned way).

Interestingly, if someone calls me from a phone number that is not blocked (and therefore, my Epic 4g can identify the number of the incoming caller) and leaves me a voicemail, then I get the voicemail notification on my phone and my Visual Voicemail indicates there is a voicemail waiting for me (within minutes after the voicemail is left). In fact, voicemails left by people with visible caller id numbers get pushed to my phone as well as any preceding voicemails left by callers with blocked/restricted caller id numbers. (e.g., Surprise...3 new voicemails get delivered to my phone.)

I tried calling Sprint tech support, but they only recommend sending me a refurbished phone. (I doubt it's my phone, since the problem only happens with voicemails from callers with blocked caller id). Heck, one supervisor recommended I just call my cell number periodically and check to see if I have any new voicemails.

Anybody have any thoughts? Please help.

Re: Voicemails from blocked caller ids do not get forwarded to ph

Never heard of this particular issue happening from anyone else. There is a small possibility that the software on the phone is having issues. I've seen software do weird things.

Your best bet would be to keep calling sprint each time that you notice it happening, create a record of it, and request that an engineer look into the issue. I had to do this process when my call started to get crossed with other random calls. (caller id would show my wife's number, but when I answered it would be someone else, and she would report that when she called me it connected to someone else, and outgoing calls would just get connected to any random number).

Update: Well, Sprint sent me a refurbished Epic 4g as a solution to my failed-delivery-of-voicemails-from-blocked-caller-id problem.

Unfortunately, the problem still persists on my "new", refurbished phone. Voicemails from callers with blocked caller id do not get forwarded to my phone.

Another Update:

Well, the problem has seemed to have resolved (for the moment). Currently, my original Epic 4g is getting voicemails "pushed" to it from callers with restricted numbers or unavailable numbers. (Of note, I ended up reactivating my original Epic 4g, since the replacement/refurbished Epic 4g had the same problem as I described in previous posts.)

The only new thing that I changed on my Epic 4g was to update it to Gingerbread (via the OTA). Personally, I don't think Sprint's OTA push of the Gingerbread update would have fixed my problem with the voicemails.

The only other thing I can think of is that a network ticket (CMIS?) was started for me the last time I talked to a level 2 tech support person. She was convinced that the problem was with their network, and not my phone(s). She told me I was supposed to get a call from network support, but I never did. Maybe they found the problem and fixed it. Too bad I don't know what they fixed.

Unfortunately, the problem still persists on my "new", refurbished phone. Voicemails from callers with blocked caller id do not get forwarded to my phone.
