Vzw hates that you have unlimited data

Show me in black n white where those numbers are listed? I have read all thru the TOS on their website and cannot find anything that lists a cap.

I understand they are doing that, doesn't mean they legally can.

I couldn't find the data limit but Straight Talk is well known to have a 2.5 gb soft cap that like a lot of things with straight talk is not universally enforced. If you use just so much data they can look at your packets and find out what you are doing. huge data usage is an indicator that you are probably doing one of the prohibited activities.

And as far as what they can legally do the TOS is clear that they reserve the right to terminate service for prohibited use

The limits aren't in black and white on the ToS page on Straight Talk. I was wondering if it was truly unlimited and started searching for restrictions. Google "straight talk unlimited data restrictions" and you will find a multitude of information. The numbers I used seemed to be an average of what subscribers stated they had used when their service was shut off. I really wanted to switch to save money, but for how my family uses data (read husband and kids love Netflix) and where we live, Straight Talk just wasn't a viable option for us.

Sorry, I didn't mean to derail this post. I just hate seeing something advertised as unlimited when it really is not. I didn't know until I actually started the research, and this information may save someone a huge headache one day.

I can break the 2gb limit and never go against their TOS. So are you suggesting that as long as I do not perform prohibited tasks, they will not cut me off at 2gbs or so? Because I can hit over 2gb in less than 2 weeks and never do anything that is against their TOS.

Update: I went to the Verizon Corporate store today, apparently the store I was at in at the mall is a "re-seller" I was told that the data rate plan keeps going beyond the 10 GB in the promo flyer in the same pattern of 2 GB per $10.00 - NOT TRUE! 10 GB is the limit and it is $15.00 per GB beyond that. Considering that I was going to add 2 Jet Packs this was a deal breaker i also realized that I would loose my corporate discount too.. In the end I did nothing, I have a corporate plan and new price plans are on the way for corporate customers. These new plans are going to be more geared to large data users. For now I will cut back on the data plan on the one phone that I have on the limited plan and find a under the radar tether
app for the rare times that I need connectivity. I also wont be using my new Nexus tablet in non wi-fi locations til this gets worked out. Thanks to all that offered any constructive criticism, that is what these forums are for. I hope this helps others that are trying to sort this out.

Respectfully the rep was mistaken. You have to call customer service or go on MyVerizon and change your plan after activation but I assure you they are available.

Verizon own training documents are contradictory on the subject but all you have to do is check out the website and you will see that they ARE there.

Theoretically, but I would not bet the farm (or my phone number on it), they are very inconsistent in enforcing their own rules and very aggressive at reclaiming phone numbers of deactivated phones. Beware.

Was speaking with a friend of mine the other day that's over a Verizon wireless store and he told me because of my data usage don't let them change it but they can always fix it back if need be by overriding under an old plan. He said they had a lady that lost her phone and when she got the new phone activated it killed her unlimited plan but they had no problem going back and fixing it. I was asking him what he was being told by Verizon about new nexus phones if they would keep carrying them and he said they haven't said much. I am watching T-Mobile with their bring your own device deal and then buy the phone from Google as a second option just in case.

Curious, why do others get so agitated when they hear of people actually switching to Share Everything to save money?

Of course, I'm going to sound like I'm defending Verizon here but honestly - it shouldn't really matter to you or me or to anyone other than the person that has to pay the bill. It's like no one on this forum can post about how they saved to Share Everything without someone else jumping in to tell them what a mistake they've made or how they're giving in to Verizon's greed or how Share Everything doesn't work for them.

Everyone's situation is different. No one is forced to switch to Share Everything. If switching can save someone money, they should probably switch. If it doesn't save them money, they should continue what they're doing now.

If a new customer coming to Verizon doesn't like the new Share Everything plan, they shouldn't sign up for Verizon. Again, they're not forced to. There are 3 other major carriers, and dozens of regional and MVNOs available to them.

Verizon will not throttle unlimited 4G LTE. If they change their mind, I'm sure they'll give notice like they've done with unlimited 3G.

Those who are supposed data hogs, go ahead an continue. Verizon isn't stopping you.

I must not be understanding the "Shared Everything" plan correctly. From what I've read it's virtually impossible to save....

Current plan: 2 unlimited plans @ $30 each = $60 bucks.

Shared plan: 2 data plans @ $40 each (that may be where I'm wrong) plus data charges over 2 gigs = around $80 to $100 bucks.

My wife and I personally use just over 2 gigs per month each on just our phones.

Am I missing something??

From what I can see, the new plans are only good for those with 2 or 3 phones and don't use hardly any data.

Someone like me, with five phones (2 are smartphones) would quickly go broke on the new plan. The data blocks and "dumbphone" prices are way out of whack. Keep the dumbphone prices at $10 and start the data out at $30 and it might be more enticing.

Shared data plan is one data plan.

Went into verizon for a replacement. Guy trying to tell me that since I changed the minutes on my plan it could put me on the new shared plan and kick me off unlimited data. *whuuuut?* i asked for a supervisor who corrected him but it sounded like the way the system there is set up now they're trying to trick people into the new plan. If you go in for *anything* make sure you tell them you don't want the new plan. He told me if it's just a replacement and a minutes change its not a new contract.

He still said i should call CS just in case it automatically s my unlimited.

They want people off unlimited data like a teenage boy on prom night wants to see boobies

Did you know the average user only uses about 2gb of data? 75% of the time the new plan is a better value. People are just so stuck on unlimited. How much data on average do you use? The rep was probably not trying to trick you, he probably was misinformed on how the new plan changes work, and didn't realize the only way a plan change would affected your unlimited is if you went to the Share Everything plan. And no, plan changes have no affect on contracts.

lol "like a teenage boy wants to see boobies".

no and i got ya...i got this really nice, fancy email telling me about the "Great" new plans...i kinda ignored it until last night when i went on their site and realized that share everything is the ONLY option! ugh!

I went to Tmo today and talked to a girl there. she made a pretty good case. i'm actually sitting here thinking i can sell my razr maxx and get a GS3 on tmo. haha.

Actually Share Everything is not your only option. Just because it only shows that as an option on the website doesn't mean that is your only option. I would go to a store or call into CS and ask about that.

That sounds EXACTLY like they are forcing people off unlimited data plans.

What I meant to emphasize here was that the computer system wasn't letting the rep give me a warranty replacement because I had a pending change to my minutes. On the 25th I used the app to change from 1400 to 700 which would go into effect on my next cycle which was after the 28th. From what I could gather, the computer wanted to automatically put me into the new shared plan.

So now you can't even change your minutes if you have an old plan? I told him to just leave it at 1400.

If I lose my unlimited data over a warranty exchange I'll be heated.

I really hate verizon right now.

Sent from my unrooted DInc2 via Tapatalk

Ok now you are assuming. The computer doesn't automatically do anything. You can change minutes all day with your plan. You won't lose your data over a warranty replacement. I would stop assuming and start asking more questions.

from what i understand, you're correct.

you can't change your minutes cause those plans no longer exist. so if you change, you have to go with the shared ones.

i went to tmo today to try and escape this a little longer. i just don't understand the $40 charge just to have a line on plan. seems silly for only one device.

Again, stop assuming and do a little research and ask more questions.

actually....what i'm saying is the plan is $60 which isn't bad...but then they charge you an ADDITIONAL $40 for having a line on that plan. and from what i understand, any extra device is another $40. A real pain for people with a phone and an ipad, for example.

Tablets are only $10 a month on Share Everything. And you couldn't share data before, so every device that needed data before needed the $30 data plan. So for $100 dollars you get unlimited minutes, unlimited messaging and 2gb of data. Which 2gb of data is what on average people use.

On average people use 2gb. But they want a family of 5 who all use an average of 2gb each to share 2gb. Make the lower plans cheaper and it will actually be a value.

Well I must be above average then cuz I avg 10gb a month gotta love unlimited data

as an indirect agent for Verizon (through a third party retailer) I can assure you that existing customers can change their plans and features just as they always have, as long as you dont remove your unlimited data plan or purchase a new phone at discount pricing you are fine. Please stop speeding speculation and ASK someone who knows.

as Ry just said you get ONE data plan that is shared by up to 10 devices

In your situation you have 2 smartphones at $40 each so $80 for the phones.

Then assuming you want 4GB of shared data $70 ($80 if you want 6GB for a safety blanket)

Total $110 (pr $120)

On the old system

2 phones with 700 Minutes and unlimited texting $100
2 (non sharable) 2GB data plans 2x30 =$60

So a total of $160

You just saved $50 going to the new plan AND you now have unlimited minutes, you can use tethering/hotspot, AND you dont need to worry about overages if one of your phones goes over the 2GB limit

It's no skin off any of our noses if you want to keep the old plan but honestly who doesn't want to save $50/month?
