VZW Mobile Hotspot for Those With Unlimited Data

I always try to avoid talking to csr... They can muck up your account.

Can't agree with you more. I sleep very well at night knowing that Verizon CSRs are not in charge at NORAD. If they were, one phone call and they can accidentally trigger a nuclear war with China after one phone call to order take-out from the nearest Chinese restaurant.

Pretty sure you can do it from the website too.

You can. The app is just easier to navigate

Hi everyone. Brand new member here and I, like everyone else here, am so nervous talking to Verizon CSR that I avoid them at all costs. I have the unlimited data plan on my Droid. If I activate the hotspot feature myself through the app, will I be charged for using data past 3GB? I live out in the country and there is no other internet connection here other than Verizon 4G LTE. So I want to use it for my computer, tablet, etc. I was told by someone that Verizon only allows you to use 3GB per billing period for like $20 a month. Well 3GB won't even come close to what I need. I have read the replies here but still am uncertain about being able to fully utilize the entire unlimited data without incurring additional per GB charges beyond a certain amount. Can anyone verify for me? Thanks!

If you have a legacy unlimited data plan, the only hotspot plan you should see without changing your phone's unlimited data plan is the unlimited hotspot plan for $30. Essentially for $59.99 ($29.99 for the phone's unlimited data plan and $30 for the unlimited hotspot), you're free to use tethering as much as you want. There is no limit.

Why nobody using FoxFi with their unlimited data plan? Just wondering...

Using Foxfi (or other apps that circumvent the carrier restrictions on data usage) with an unlimited data plan on Verizon is a violation of their terms of service and puts the customer at risk for adverse actions against their account, including revocation of the UDP, account suspension or termination and/or additional charges. As such we recommend utilizing the legal option for Verizon, which is to take advantage of the tethering plan through the Verizon account. All tiered data plans have tethering included and therefore dont require any workarounds to use that feature.

Where do I go on the app to add the hotspot feature for $30? I can't find it on desktop or app

In the app, from the home screen go to Manage Features in the Your Plan Summary section. The option should be in the Data Hotspot Packages section.

I'm not trying to bypass the carrier. Just afraid to call and have CS screw up my unlimited data. I'll check the app again this evening. If still no luck, I may just go by the store in person.

My wife just went on a trip and had to sign up for the hotspot. She turned it on online and I saw this thread and turned it off using the app. Got an email confirmation of the change to the plan plus the charges and no change to my UDP.

Yes, you can toggle this option on/off yourself via the website or app and it does not impact your plan aside from the proration of the fee for hotspot.

Confirmed, i do it all the time... Turn it on for a day or two and then turn it off. Only charged for the days you have it enabled.

So for those of you in this thread that have been having some problems looking for/finding the toggle to add a Hotspot/Tethering plan to your existing UDP with VZW, I have news:
if you were NOT provisioned, (meaning your account was not already set up to tether prior to Oct/Nov 2015 when VZW added the extra fee for the UDP plans), you will not, I repeat, will never be able to turn on Hotspot/Tethering whether you look on the mobile app, website, or call CS since your account effectively didn't have it prior to the change.
Just got off the phone speaking to a level 2 senior supervisor on this topic since i couldn't find how to add it and find out why I wasn't provisioned, since used to tether legally back in 2014 and early 2015!
Looks like there was a problem with my phone near the mid part of last year and it got turned off, unprovisioned!
So I'm screwed... :-(
Foxfi anyone? d:^}
UPDATE: I must be addicted to customer service at Verizon... So had to call back as couldn't log into my account on the website and lo and behold I found where I could turn on this feature! Go to My Plans and Service > Products and Apps > look under Get Products - Premium Products and scroll down you'll see: 4G Hotspot!
The rep even confirmed that it was there though no rep can add it to my account nor would it be available on the smartphone app since one has to agree to the T&Cs with a check mark. Yay!
So indeed it is still available!
