I got an email from VZW saying they're sending me a discount for my recent Incredible purchase because they were "able to reduce shipping costs"

I think maybe they're scared about returns with all these complaints about battery life. LOL.

I doubt that's the reason. The battery life isn't even that bad. Sure, compared to a feature phone that might last 2-3 days it is terrible, but for a smartphone it's not that bad. It's a powerful phone and if you have all kinds of widgets refreshing constantly then obviously battery life will suffer. I've been able to manage mine pretty well though, and don't plan to return the phone just because the battery life isn't exceptional.

Sorry for the mini rant, it's just frustrating to see people posting all of these complaints on the forum (you weren't even actually complaining, I know) about the phone when in reality it's a superb phone. By reading this forum you'd think that because of CityID and poor battery life the phone must suck. Neither "problems" are really that bad. I'm very happy with the phone and I think a vast majority of others are as well. :)

I can live with the battery life for now. Would like more on the stock battery, but it is small and the phone is doing a lot more than my old Stormfail.

But, back on topic, grats on the refund!

While I agree that the device definately is powerful and should expect some battery drain but, not how it is in its current form. My battery can hardly get me through half a day and I barely use anything. I dont tweet, I dont facebook, myspace, any of that crap which uses more power. I have the stock apps and have added nothing to it and its draining that quick.

While I love the device, the battery life is just pathetic and I fully understand that such a powerful device would drain, but not this fast. I mean literally, after unhooking my charger, my phones at 80% within 10 minutes of just sitting idle. Not only that but the OS is using anywhere from 40-96% of my battery which boggles me.

Maybe I'm having better luck than you but I seem to get more out of my battery life than that. Mine was very bad in the first two days but has picked up significantly. Whenever I look to see what's been using the battery power it is mostly the OS which I think is surprising too. Even after playing a game for a while that game still only makes up like 6%. "Android System" is usually around 50% or higher (currently it's at 43% and with cell standby at 19% and display at 17%).

I paid for the overnite shipping, but the phone was shipped 2day. I think it is related to the refunded the $10 I paid. Can anybody else who got this email confirm?

well, i doubt the will credit the account, probably more likely to be sending out the prepaid debit cards, like a mail in rebate.

I was making a joke. Hence the LOL at the end of my post. I guess it didn't translate. Sorry.

I got the seidio 1750 battery. I've been off the charger for 12 hours now and still have 70% of my battery. I've used the phone as I woudl normally. No special tweaks other than turned off auto brightness and animations. I think the battery life is more than managable.

That sounds great. I agree that it is very manageable, though I'm considering getting an extended battery myself anyway, just for those few extra hours.

Sorry for not catching the joke. Wasn't sure if the lol was to show sarcasm or just laughing at the fact that people might actually be returning the phone for battery life. No need for an apology from you, I should not have taken it so literally.

Off topic, but speaking of animations, I don't see much changing between the "all animations" "some animations" and "no animations" settings. Oh well.

Does turning off auto brightness really help with the battery. I figured when it dimmed it used less power that leaving it on like a medium setting? 70% left after 12 hours.....wow. My battery has been getting better each day, I pulled about 7 hours out using it fully. I think that's about the best I'm going to get out of it though, but I also streamed a podcast for about an hour, so I may be able to budge 8 hours without doing that......

I wonder how many people will be getting this email. I haven't gotten yet, so is this confirmed for a mass of people or is this only effecting people that ordered during a certain date etc?

Yeah. Me neither. Also, nobody is really testing all these allegedly "battery saving tweaks" in a closed environment. So its impossible to tell what helps and what doesn't.

We're really getting far afield now. 5:00 EST or close enough. I'm out. :D

to make that statement using an extended battery doesn't make much sense.

if the stock battery were manageable, you won't need to have an extended battery just to make it through the day.

while i really do like this phone more than any other phone i have ever owned, the battery drain is more than one would expect even for a modern smartphone.

my droid (overclocked) lasted an entire day easily with the same usage as i do on my incredible.

before i get too off topic though,

wasn't shipping supposed to be free for preorders? has anyone gotten an email like this that didn't pay for shipping?

i paid for overnight shipping. they shipped it 2 day shipping but shiopped it two days before it came out rather than the day it came out like they said.

so i called verizon asking why i didnt get overnight shipping even if i paid for it. they said that because they shipped it early and i was getting it before it came out there was no overnight shipping and that is what it meant by overnight shipping.

rather than call BS for 3 dollars I told the lady that it is unfair it was unclear and that in the future they should try to make it more clear.

then today i got the email and was credited back the 8.99 i paid for overnight shipping to my credit card.

My guess is enough people were like, wtf i paid for overnight so they just refunded the shipping costs with the excuse of oh hey we reduced our costs for you because of everyone paying full price/buying it instore..

just my opinion.

but i did get credited to my credit card yesterday and got the email today.

Does turning off auto brightness really help with the battery.

I would imagine that it does, I know it helps with my laptop for sure. I haven't been able to really compare side by side having brightness up or down how it performs, but just by looking at what % of the battery is used up by your screen should give you a good indication/comparison between settings.

For all those complaining about battery life.... Are you really spending 8-12 hours away from a wall outlet, car, computer, etc that you can plug it in for 5 min and get yourself a few more hours of use? Its really not that big a deal to just plug it in somewhere. If you are really worried about the battery life, go back to a phone that does next to nothing and lasts 3 days

is the refund simply related to shipping charges? pretty sure i used a free overnight shipping coupon code, so if it's limited to that i'm probably SOL
