Wake up without using power button

If this is posted elsewhere I apologize in advance. I just moved to the S9 Plus from an S8 Plus. On the S8 Plus, when I touched the fingerprint sensor, the phone would wake up. The S9 Plus does not and I cannot find any setting for it. The only way I'm able to wake the phone is by hitting the power button. Any suggestions?

That's odd... mine does wake up with the FPS. Do you have any apps that might take over lockscreen settings? T-Mobile variant here.

Interesting. Not that I'm aware of. I called support and was told its not working due to a security patch not yet released. Guess that was a load of .......

Figured it out finally. Support is useless. Under Lock Screen & Security->Secure Lock Settings->Secured Lock Time, set to Instantly with the power key or when the screen times out.

Not sure why it wouldn't work on other settings, but, again, T-Mo with the latest update, I have mine to to 1 minute and I can still wake up the phone by just touching the FPS. I also have 'Lock instantly with power key' off and still works (but I've tried both, and yup, works no matter the setting).

Now, is yours a different carrier or unlocked? The setting names don't match what I'm seeing (mine says 'Lock Automatically' where you set the time), and the power key lock is a separate option in there.

Yeah, mine has the time and the power key as separate options, so I can set it to auto-lock with both the key and a timeout (or in my case, just with a timeout).

I also notice the administrator note in your screenshot. Maybe a corporate account is limiting options? Or a different device administrator with security policies being enforced?

Well, I'm the administrator and its the same policy I use for everyone, including what is on my S8P which this worked fine on. I only enforce password and screenlock.

Why can't you wake the phone with the home button? I practically never touch the power button.

I just thought about this...did you try enabling the Smart Lock feature?

Sounds dumb but just in case... under Manage Finger Prints is the toggle to unlock with finger print.

This was an issue with the S8 as well. I had a friend on AT&T who had trouble unlocking his phone. His problem was that setting, as well. If the phone is not locked yet, then it won't turn on by touching the fingerprint sensor because it feels there's no need to unlock an already unlocked phone. If you were to wait until the phone locks itself, it would then do so. My friend had his set to 15 min for locking. Changed that and voila. I always instantly lock mine so never had that problem. I'm also on Verizon though so they may do it differently.

If it's really annoying I suppose one could try to flash a different firmware but could then lose the AT&T services that reside on the AT&T ROM.

Like mentioned I have the FW for model G965U1 and have it set differently and the sensor always unlocks the phone even if it's not security locked.

It would make sense since the FPS is meant to UNLOCK the phone. If the phone does not lock with power key and by settings doesn't lock until 5 min after screen off (hypothetically), then what is the FPS "unlocking"? At that point u only need to hit the home button or something else to bring the screen back on. Just my .02

I'm on AT&T and never realized this since I always set my phone to lock immediately when I turn off the screen for security purposes. So my FPS always turns on my phone and brings me straight to the home screen. I didn't realize if I hadn't used that setting my screen wouldn't turn on if I used the FPS.

So I pretty much use my FPS as like the ON button for my devices instead of using the side button.
