wakelock problems

UPDATE:
I have found the cause of my wake locks. It was Bejeweled Blitz. After playing the game the speaker would continue to produce a constant low hiss. Killing the app by swiping it off the recent apps list stops the hiss.

The low hiss could only be heard by holding the speaker up to my ear. If you are having wake locks I would suggest listening for the hiss and swiping open apps off the recent app list one at a time, listening for the hiss to stop between each app kill. Listen for 10 seconds before killing the next app. If your wake lock is of the audio out type you will quickly find the culprit .

Good luck

Is anyone else having trouble with wakelocks? Every morning I get a wake lock that eats away at my battery. I regularly get a full days use from my Maxx, with 40% left after 18 hours of moderate use. But I think I should be doing better.

If my HTML fo is any good you should see screen caps of my battery use data.

Okay, I got the screen caps to show up. Does anyone have a suggestion as to where I should look for the cause of my wake locks.

I already have screen lock sound off, keyboard sound off, and email notification sound off.

I am starting to think it is touch-less controls. Or possibly something to do with leaving WiFi on all the time.

Basically I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing wake-lock issues.

You have a big issue on your hands. Do a factory restore.

It says "mediaserver". That's likely from online audio or video. Are you doing any of that with the phone?

Nope no streaming of any sort. I did listen to 20min of locally stored music, but that was after I took the screen caps.

I don't have viber, I have read all of those links and even followed most of the tip they provide. Thanks for the input though.

I'm having Android OS eat up a lot of battery and from better battery stats, the calendar app is causing a lot of wake ups. I noticed this after I entered my school and work schedule into Google Calendar. It also syncs with my Laptop's calendar.

StartingAlertService (Calendar) is pretty high. I went into the Google menu in settings, clicked on my account, and noticed that the sync symbol wouldn't go away. It seems to be constantly syncing over and over again. Any ideas besides having to shut it off and sync it manually ?

Update: Its not that it syncs endlessly but it syncs a lot more than I would like it to. Especially since I am not modifying any entries.

Like I said.

I am going to hold off on a factory rest, at least until the weekend.

I have deleted one album from my music which had a corrupt file and I accepted the free six months of Google play music. I accepted the Google play offer because wake lock detector pointed to play music as the cause of 649 wake lock requests. So far my phone has done much better with only 9 minuets of wake lock, opposed to over 8 hours yesterday.

So I am hoping to monitor my wakelocks for a few days and see if the problem goes away.

I have a feeling that I've got the same issue. Do you have any more information on this?

It seems like media heavy apps (GPM, Youtube) trigger the MediaServer to chew threw a lot of battery if I don't actively kill the process. I'm most likely going to do a factory restore, but I'm curious if there is anything that triggers this kind of behavior, or if it's just the luck of the draw.

Well I couldn't take it anymore, and I factory reset my phone this after noon. After a few days of monitoring my wakelock issue I was unable to determine what was the root cause. Everyday something different would be the trigger. My final suspicion is that the alarm manager was the culprit. I have my alarm set to go off before my phone comes out of moto active sleep mode. I have a suspicion that trigering an alarm that overides the silence setting causes a wakelock loop of some sort.

I will continue to monitor my phone for a few more days and report back if the problem returns.

Another possible workaround would be to use an alternative Alarm app from the Google Play store. I use Alarm clock extreme for my phone. It has a special setting that allows the app to override any silenced volume setting. So I can keep my volume silenced and the alarm still comes through. It seems to have no real impact on my battery life. Here is the free version.

Or the paid version that I use

I would head over to XDA and install better battery stats. install the app, plugin and unplug your phone, let it sit for at least 4 hours, and then post a dump file. this phone has a similarity to my droid razr maxx hd...I have to manually restart it every few days to keep things flowing smoothly

Just to let everyone know, a factory reset did nothing to solve the problem. I am still getting wakelocks that never let my phone deep sleep. I have no idea how to fix this problem.

jfriend33 thanks for the tip. I will head over there and check it out.

That sucks, bro. Just brainstorming here: Do you use Google Music app?

The last Google Music app upgrade a few months ago did something to my Droid Razr MAXX HD phone. My battery life went downhill immediately after I installed this update. I checked my battery monitor program and saw that I was getting tons of wakelocks. I went into my App settings menu and disabled Google Music. Battery life immediately returned to normal. I've been afraid to re-enable it every since. The weird thing is that I didn't use the app. I use Spotify and Poweramp instead.

One other time I updated ebay's app and it started sucking my battery like crazy until I went into the app itself and used it for a minute. I think I had to acknowledge some new terms of the app. Then battery drain stopped and problem never returned. It was almost like the ebay app was waiting for me to open and wouldn't stop trying to get the phone's attention until I did.

I am having this same problem and its saying the wakelock is from mediaserver..

And Wakelock detail says AudioOut_2 has 2h 47m.

This is after having my phone off charger for 3 hours and never touching it --- streaming anything. The odd thing I noticed is that at this time a volume up down wasn't changing the ringer volume but changing audio playback volume. So it's like it thinks its streaming something even though it isn't.

Wonder what the culprit is. The only app I USE for streaming often is Pocket Cast -- although I also have google play music and mlb at bat installed (haven't run those since last reboot). So I wonder if this is an issue w/ pocket cast.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Do me a favor and try this one suggestion : disable Google Music app and reboot your phone. Then recharge, take off the charger, and see if you still get the same battery drain. I get a sneaky suspicion that the Google Music app is doing the exact same thing to your phone that it did to mine. I didn't even open the app, but it was taking half of my battery life.

It was just like the Succubus that tried to suck the life out of Chef in that episode of South Park. So, I guess you could also try singing that song backwards like Stan and Kyle did. "There's got to be a morning after..."

Sorry, got sidetracked. Just try the disable suggestion and see if that helps.
