Want a Bionic...but the camera complaints worry me

Grey, is it possible to add a glare resistant film to the lens?

Putting expensive filters over a DSLR's lens (or film SLR) is something that is routinely debated, as ANY extra GLASS surfaces can be detrimental to image quality. I wouldn't put ANY kind of film over an already MARGINAL camera lens on any cell phone or P&S. IQ is already bad enough! :) having said that, I DO personally use UV filters on my expensive lenses MOST of the time, for the obvious reasons. For super critical shots, I remove any unnecessary filters.

And what you are proposing--a "glare resistant film" would be the WORST kind of covering one could imagine, other than something smeared with peanut butter.

I agree with the above post and would say no to filters. Just using my hand like a lens hood works great, and you've always got your hand with you.

Well, I love my Bionic, been waiting since late march to upgrade from the BB tour. I am very pleased with the performance of the phone, but as a housing appraiser, my phone is my back up camera. Oh well. Grainy is better than nothing.

I only have hooks :_( lol seriously though, my obvious noobness with cameras probably explains my complacency with the bionics cam. Lol

I had a feeling that would be the case, but had to ask.

I took some great pics and some amazing videos of a football game. I'm very pleased with it however I still prefer to play with the box it came inas I said in a previous post. :)

Actually I am a reasonably experienced photographer and I like the Bionic's camera. The auto focus is a problem but it's just quirky and as some one else said you get better at using it. Colors tend to be a little cool compared to what my eye thinks it is seeing, but that is easily correctable. You might enjoy the Photoshop Express app for quick color correction.

It's NOT a SLR replacement, but I have been surprised at how well the camera does and I have gotten some very nice prints from my Bionic's images. As for photographing kids-bright light plus the sports setting is the way to go.

I noticed a couple people in this thread and another mention trying out different "modes" - one suggested Manual and another Sport (for fast pix without long focus time). I'm currently working with Vignette, but I'm not seeing enough of an improvement to consider this app THE answer. I'm going to test out the modes thing on stock and see what happens. Maybe that's the secret?????

Hard to believe that the Bionic camera is so much worse than the DX, which had a great camera once on Froyo.
