Just a quick heads up here ... We've been testing the Netgear PTV3000 Miracast adapter. And while the Nexus 4 can see it, it can't actually connect to it. I've been talking with JR Raphael from Computer World (and @androidpower fame), as he got one, too. Apparently (and this is noted in the fine print) the PTV3000 is a "pre-compliant device," and JR got Google to confirm as much.

So nobody go out and buy one just yet.

Netgear does this quite often. Back when I worked for them, they did the same thing with Wireless N (though, so did a lot manufacturers) before it was set in stone by IEEE.

Phil, do you know if this pre-compliant version of miracast on this device is upgradeable via future software updates?

Got word that they *are* expecting an update shortly. Not sure if it'll make it "compliant." Still waiting on a reply to confirm.

The Nexus 4 does not use MHL and while AllShare is Samsung's branding of Miracast, like AnyNet+ for HDMI-CEC, there might be some proprietary code in there.

There will be a large uptick in Miracast support at CES in a couple of months. Users are probably better off waiting until the ~$50 Miracast compliant adapters are available or, better yet, get a new TV with it integrated. I'd also expect v.3 Google TV devices to include the feature.

I'm still waiting on word of adapters or dongles that will allow non-compliant devices, like my year old netbook, to become miracast source compliant.

Also, what is the PTV3000 good for at the moment? Just WiDi?

These are the only list of products that are miracast complaint. its a very short list and most are not released yet
search result from wifi org Search Products | Wi-Fi Alliance

TV's from sony and samsung. adapter from LG,Sony,Actiontech
something that we should watchout for.

Ok, if the NetGear PTV3000won't work ,then what will? I'd also like to know if the Miracast will work withthe Galaxy Nexus or the Nexus 10. I ordered my PTV3000and it's on its way. I expect they will eventually make Miracast work with Nexus?

Any information on Mircast and 4.2 would be helpful. There is very little out there. What software /app on the Nexus is required?

So at the moment is it just a case of "Wait and see"? Really keen to get this function working on both my N7 and my laptop.

I have an optimus G, apparently it's wi-di ready. Does anyone know if i just have to plug a ptv3000 into my tv and pair my phone to the adapter to get some mirroring? I'm not sure what "pre-compliant" means. Is it that the device has the hardware but, not the software? There isn't much information out there on how this all works.

Got a link to the beta firmware today (thanks windroidguy) and things are working now.

It's still just display mirroring, and I'm not 100 percent convinced it's the be all end all of using a phone and TV together, but it's still cool. :)

the ptv-3000 doesnt work with the lg optimus g. its not certified yet. netgear says that it will be around march 2013. does anyone know if the actiontech device works?

I'm interested to know of the actiontec device works with nexus4. Got one Phil?

I see from the link to compliant devices in the comments above that both the netgear and actiontec devices are compliant now. The actiontec product comes with an additional USB client adapter which is handy for getting your existing laptop connected to it.
