Not sure if it's my unit only, but, the phone seems to crash when I remove my SD. anyone else have this issue?

That's normal. Adopted storage is treated as internal storage. No way to know exactly what bits the phone stored on that, so removing it will cause problems.

What Clocks said. Imagine if you were to suddenly remove one of the onboard eMMC memory chips--same idea there. I always recommend thinking twice before using an SD as adoptable internal storage, because of this, as well as this increased reliance on inherently lower quality memory chips for more crucial functions. Consumer microSD cards, even from top manufacturers like SanDisk, are still much less reliable than eMMC memory used on the motherboard--just look at the regularity of posts here talking about losing photos on a corrupted card.

Did you unmount before removing? But honestly... With the 64gb internal option, I don't see why you would want to use adoptable storage.

I never had the issue with my old G3. Ever. I've had my evo SD corrupt multiple times too. Nothing more than apps and the like on it. I only have it because I bought a 16gb phone for some reason.
So, to reiterate, old Moto g, no problem, corrupting and 16gb phone
