Yes, I read about Nougat finally arriving to the U.S., but I read somewhere that there was an actual Dec. 2016 OTA release. That's news to me, because I never got that. I am on T-Mobile USA. Did anyone ever get this OTA? Do I have to remove my SIM to get it? I did remove my SIM to get the Sep. 2016 update - would that have affected any future updates, i.e. would I have to remove my SIM to get any future and all OTA updates, including the new Nougat update? Or how long before T-Mobile allows the Nougat update OTA to take effect?

I did get it Ota at that time. I'm not from US but did order the phone from Motorola US.

There was a December 2016 security update, which was pushed out via OTA beginning in late February 2017, it was a version that ended in 18-16 (previously was 18-8).

You must be on 18-16 to accept or apply the OTA because they are differential updates, only the differences between that last Marshmallow update and the current update are included in the update.

FYI, I just did a factory reset and I'm still not getting an OTA notification - and when I go to Settings > About Phone > System Updates, it still no updates are available. This is extremely frustrating.

At this point I would suggest flashing the ROM image manually. Assuming a US XT1575 version...

Either Nougat version NPH25.200-22 which is available here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/general/xt1575-moto-x-pure-edition-factory-t3704142

Or if you want to stay with Marshmallow use MPHS24.49-18-8, look here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...de-return-to-stock-relock-bootloader-t3489110

Although both of these are shared for people to "go back to stock" they should work on a stock, bootloader locked device. Note that you cannot downgrade with a locked bootloader, but you can upgrade to one of these versions. They are they latest versions available as "official" stock images that have leaked from Motorola... they are digitally signed, official images.

After installing either one, you should be prompted to update via OTA to the current releases. Note that Marshmallow will constantly nag you update until you are current.
