Way to see preview of all texts not just last received?

Been searching around trying to find an answer for this specific question with no luck. Is there a way to preview all text messages in the notification bar from someone when they've sent multiple in a row? Im fairly new from apple and i loved being able to expand and see each message but in my notification bar for my s9+ it only shows me the last. Thanks!

Are you on Oreo or Pie? There's an option for the Pie version of the OS on S9, but if not you'll have to use a third party texting app like Textra that has this function, or a notification bubble app.

This might actually depend upon the texting app. With Hangouts (I'm on Fi, I can use Hangouts for texting) on my Pixel 2 XL running Pie I can see multiple messages if there are several new ones from a single sender since I last opened the app. I can also quick reply form the notification.

Hi, thanks! It shows I'm on version 8.0.0 so, oreo I think? Im with ATT if this matters at all.
I just use the messages app that comes with the phone. I'm really hoping to not use a different app to text as I like the delivered and read receipts.
Is there a way to update to pie, or do I have to wait for it to push to me?
Sorry for being so ignorant to all of this, I was on iphones for almost 7 years and I don't foresee wanting to turn back anytime soon

The update to Pie (9.0) will be pushed to you when the carriers have fully tested it to their wants. American carriers alter some stuff for use there on their network rules. So far it hasn't been released in the US.
