We got pwned by the RAZR!!

Well normally I don't play that game because yes, something better is going to come out. But not from the same manufacturer for the same carrier so soon after another one of their devices just came out. The Bionic is what, maybe a month and a half old? No phone manufacturer releases a better device for the same carrier in that short of a span.

It was leaked before the bionic came out, so we all bought with that knowledge.

WOW!!! That's a d!ck move by Moto/Verizon. I genuinely feel bad for you guys :'( I was so close to getting one too. From what I can see the RAZR beats the Bionic in every area. Especially that screen, oh my. If they knew they were going to drop the RAZR that soon, they should have actually canned the Bionic altogether.

I'm also avoiding the iPhone 4S for the same reason. I have a good feeling that Apple is going to drop the iPhone 5 well before October. Probably back to releasing it in June.

......here we go....How so????

I'm happy i got the bionic over the RAZR for three reasons:

1. I use my phone so much that by the time i get home, im hovering at about 20-30% with an extended bionic battery, the 1700 mah non-removable of the RAZR would literally be a deal breaker for me.

2. Kejar31. Liberty ROM is coming to the Bionic very soon here. (Though i doubt it will take them long to get it to the RAZR)

3. I much prefer the Bionic screen to AMOLED. Really, after using it for a while and seeing a menagerie of different screen in comparison, i have really come to appreciate the advantages of the Bionic's pentile. The RAZR is going to have the same resolution, similar pentile matrix, but uses the buzzword for display technology, "AMOLED" regardless of who actually has ever seen or compared the two.

However for fairness sakes, i would have preferred the TI OMAP 4460 vs the 4430, not that the silicone is THAT different...

This.

Motocast == Zumocast. They're in the process of upgrading/updating right now. There is a "mymotocast.com" website with broken links and the TOS uses Zumocast email for support questions. Motocast is a big update and rebrand of Zumocast in which i hope Bionic can get it and maybe even before the RAZR is out with it. If you check the pictures you can see the different interfaces between Motocast and Zumocast.

I figured this was the case since I recently saw they said uploading from your phone to a computer would soon be supported.

......here we go....How so????

So I was slightly hyperbolistic, they have the same RAM and possibly the same exact camera sensor.

Proc: Razr 1.2Ghz > Bionic 1Ghz
Screen: Do we have to go there?
Battery & Battery Life: Razr 1800Mah and better battery life.
Razr has a new LTE modem. From what I've read about the newer LTE modems, they give faster speeds and consume less battery.
Razr is waterproof (to a degree)
Razr has MotoCast (although may come to Bionic)
Razr has a better chassis and materials.

I don't understand how a new phone from the same carrier and manufacturer doesn't lead to pissed offedness when it comes out less than two months after the "new flagship." As a Bionic owner, it sure as hell pisses me off. Why even release the Bionic when this was coming?

not really a big deal. the RAZR doesn't have hdmi out, and that's a must-have for me

What do you call this?

I do agree this phone is not a HUGE deal. It would be if Verizon wasn't getting the Nexus. I think this phone will be forgotten once the Nexus is unveiled.

That's what I'm saying. This isn't a case of something better coming out down the road as is usual. This was Moto saying "The Bionic is the baddest Android phone on Verizon's block! Come and get the best! Oh wait until a month and a half from now when we release something even better!"

Instead of doing the RIGHT THING, Moto kept on with the Bionic and decided to dump it to get back as much money as they could for what they've invested into the project. Good for shareholders I guess but really sh*tty to do to your customers. Many who are loyal Moto customers. This alone would put a bad taste in my mouth and keep me from ever giving them a dime. Sort of like I did with Samsung and their whole SGS GPSgate and Updategate.

By the way, that non-pentile qHD Super AMOLED Advanced screen looks absolutely jaw-dropping. That alone would piss me off as a Bionic owner. Why not put something like that into the Bionic?

Battery & Battery Life: Razr 1800Mah and better battery life.

It's 1780, actually (so, not much more than the Bionic's). It's also not removable, so a pulling battery option is out of the question. My last phone needed a new battery after about 16 months of use - it was holding about two thirds of its original capacity.

Some of the better battery life numbers are due to some tweaking in software that will change some settings, which presumably could be in a future Bionic update. I do agree that the LTE radio may be a dramatic difference, though we'll see when it's tested.

Also, while quite a bit thinner, the Razr is also longer and wider than the Bionic.

There are some things that people may prefer in the Bionic.

And the reason that the devices are so close is that the Bionic had to be redesigned from scratch. Motorola and VZW would have been dumb to dump the Bionic and lose two months of sales of such a good handset, and equally dumb to hold back the Razr just to make Bionic buyers feel better. These things happen sometimes - the Bionic is still a great phone.

I expect something better from Samsung, etc. I don't expect the manufacturer of my phone to obsolete my phone in two frick'n months.

Motorola gets an epic "F" in this area and has lost a long time customer.
It's like Mercedes, they release a new flagship with improved features once a year.
Now, for some reason they decide to up the specs and introduce a new model in an unprecedented 4 months. No official announcement so you can make an informed decision.

Moto does indeed suck.

At least you didn't buy a thunderbolt...we're 4 phones behind now, and we had 20x more problems than you have.

only advantage is that my 1 year is almost up :)

Bionic is still a great device and there is something better always around the corner, my bet is that some great phones coming first qtr 2012.

What I wanna know is that if the Bionic will ever see the Smart Actions program that the Razr has built in. Anything for me to increase battery is always a positive. Someone said it, that this is what the Bionic should have been. I mean just look at it, we didnt get a preorder, it will, it got press coverage, live event, Bionic didnt. This is what the Bionic should have been.
Only negative is no removable battery.

It just really blows that this was announced and will shortly be released so soon after the Bionic was released.... Bad planning on motos part I think.

And 90 days at costco huh? Thats looking attractive now. Since I got my Bionic from Costco.

I agree the new RAZR and Nexus phones look really amazing and better than our Bionics. At the rate technology is improving, we should all expect our phones to get pwned about every 6 months.

The Bionic is the best of the initial crop of 4G phones. The next crop of 4G phones will be even better. However, they will all have bugs!! We should get our final bug fix from Motorola/VZW by the time the next generation gets released. I would much rather sit back with a trouble free dual core phone and watch what happens with the new phones rather than fight through a new set of problems. Think about it... Ice Cream Sandwich gets announced tonight. Does anyone here actually think the first ICS phone will be trouble free? H**L NO! I fought through 3 months of problems with the Samsung Droid Charge. I'm tired of bugs and problems! My Bionic handles everything I throw at it and has enough power with it's dual core processor to keep me happy for some time to come.

Just my two cents...

lol such a stupid thread. If when you bought the Bionic you thought it was going to be the end all, be all of smartphones then you deserve to consider your self "pwned".

There will ALWAYS be a faster, cooler, more appealing phone in the horizon. If you havent figured that out by now, I dont know what to tell you.

I personally do not like the RAZR, I think its ugly and a non-removable battery is brutal for an LTE device that is going to suck juice like nothing.

The BIG difference is this phone was also being worked on at the same time as the Bionic and released not even two months after the Bionic. It's basically what the Bionic should be and honestly if it was going to be released this soon they should have just scrapped the Bionic altogether. Why push the Bionic back by half a year and then release it, only to release one better right after you finally release it?

This was my complaint. I LOVE my Bionic, but I am frustrated with the way that Moto handled this. I feel like they released the Bionic only because they HAD to (I believe this is our fault as we pushed to get a release) and it was not the flagship phone that they originally said it would be due to the push back of its release.
Had the Bionic released at its original date and then the RZAR dropped 6 months later, no biggie, that is going to happen. Yes there will always be a bigger and better phone, but as a buyer and as a MMI stock holder I didnt expect Moto to be the one releasing a bigger and better phone to over shadow their own device in 6 weeks ( from announcement).
I actually wrote a 2 page letter to Moto about this over the weekend. Will it matter, probably not but maybe someone will read it and see that I have a point. Stock holders get to voice their opinion, right?!
Like I said, I love my Bionic, but when Moto made this announcement today all it did was told me that they never had any intentions as making the Bionic as their flagship phone, it was just another release for them. I just wish that they would have thought about their consumers and the Moto supporter before they released the Bionic. It should have been tossed in the trash, chalked up for a loss and then released the RAZR.
Just my thoughts.
