We got pwned by the RAZR!!

I disagree, they planned the RAZR release the same day and the Galaxy release and the ICS announcement.

Probably long planned.

I actually wrote a 2 page letter to Moto about this over the weekend. Will it matter, probably not but maybe someone will read it and see that I have a point.

Update on my letter... I got a call Tuesday night from Motorola. I was expecting an email from them, so at 8 pm when my phone rang and it was Moto on the other end I was VERY surprised. The guy told me that they read my letter and took it seriously. He stated that they appreciated my feedback and wanted to let me know that the letter was being sent to their corporate head quarters for review. I dont know what that means, but I'm glad I got some sort of response.

That's fine with me. It offered me a more personal touch than getting a generic email. I respected the fact that he or someone from Moto took the time to call because I took the time to write an intelligent, professional letter. I'm not the type of person that sits back and airs concern or frustrations just to do it. I will go about it in a way that I hope grabs the attention of whoever I'm addressing. I am also the same when it comes to complementing as well. I'll go out of my way to write a letter or make a phone call when someone goes out of their way for me. It's just the way I was raised. I guess that's the southern in me! ;o)
Even if the guy threw it in the trash after he called me, I dont care. He called, and that adds personal touch. Plus, I feel like I did what I can do and handled it in a professional and responsible way.

I am rockin my Bionic with pride and will be pre-ordering the RAZR for my wife. I think it's more of a chick phone anyway! I like my phones to have a little bulk to them.

Later Android Community!

good on you, didnt mean to come off as being a jerk. Just poking fun ;)

"Intensive" is not a word used in that context. What you mean to say is "for all intents and purposes." Just a pet peeve of mine.

:) and one of the most misspelled words I see on line is "lose". Seems most of the posting world likes to spell it incorrectly, as "loose". (example of wrong spelling: "How did I loose my keys??")

Another one: "I could care less", instead of the correct, "I couldn't care less".

Ha! My wife and I have talked about the "I could care less." It bugs us both....."so you're saying you could care less?"

This is my #1 issue with Android. The new phone, 10x better than the one released just two weeks, ago, is such a disgustingly viscious cycle in Android. I couldn't handle it anymore. There's seriously a new phone every couple of months that makes your phone look like a Motorola StarTac. I LURVE Android - I think it's absolutely the best smartphone platform in the market. But I can't stand the 462,329 different Android phones out there. It's completely unnecessary. I know you guys will hate me for saying this (and I'm not an Apple fanboi, I just use one for the time being - and miss Android every day), but this is one thing Apple does get incredibly right - lack of saturation of the market with tons of new phones frequently - and putting out an unfinished product (Bionic, D3).

Major companies in the Android game (Motorola, Samsung, HTC, etc.) need to release only a couple phones a year, stick to those, and make them work as flawlessly as they can from release date. I think it's pretty pathetic that Motorola released a phone (the Bionic) in September - fully 9 months behind schedule - knowing that they would release something just two months later that would dwarf the Bionic, technically speaking. It's also pathetic that they push out phones with issues like the Bionic had (I know they weren't in the sum of all phones, but enough to make it a problem), or the blue picture tint of the Droid 3. They need to stick to a couple of phones, and make sure they work right.

To take something from Top Chef, the judges always ask why the chefs put something out that they, themselves, knew wasn't any good. Oftentimes, the other products that the chefs put out would be viewed in a much better light without that garbage along with it and the one s*****y product gets them kicked off the show. Motorola needs to take a hint.

I honestly think this is a shame.

IMO, have them keep releasing better..using multiple manufacturers...let me decide if I want to buy the next best in if it's within 2 months... no different with PC's and our laptops which I also choose to keep current with the latest and greatest though it seems to average 6-8 months. does that mean the model(s) I am replacing is useless? Not at all and there is a market for this equipment..

I understand most cannot do this but this should not limit options for those who can and technology in general... we got here in general from these little technology life cycles

Seriously? Explain how the RAZR dwarfs the Bionic "technically" because thats a far stretch.

Ok, so dwarf wasn't the correct word, and I wasn't just referring to the guts of the phone. But, to clarify, it has a better screen, has MOTOACTV, it's thinner, lighter, etc. In my eyes, and I'm sure in the eyes of many consumers as well, the Razr is a superior device to the Bionic.

But you missed the point of my rant. It was more on the fact that these companies release a ton of phones. In succession. And release unfinished product, when they have something bigger and better around the corner (2 months away). It was more of a "shame on you Motorola" rant.

So...you are against constant innovation? Bear in mind, there will NEVER be a "perfect" smartphone. They will continue to evolve until long after you and are dead. Why do you feel that Apple's "one size fits all/once-a-year-refresh cycle" is for everyone? I say, the more models, the merrier.

Where in my post did I say anything about being against constant innovation? Innovation is fine, welcomed, and absolutely necessary.

I'm against a company (say Motorola) constantly churning out phones that are seemingly unfinished only to churn out another to compete against themselves. My main problem is they push s**t phones out (or at least phones that have a large multitude of problems) to just put out another phone 2 months later. Innovation is great, competition is great. I was never against that. What I said was that the major players in the Android game (those being primarily Moto, HTC, Samsung) need to focus on a couple, or a few, phones in a calendar year. And make sure that what they put out isn't forced and works as near flawlessly out of the box that it can. I'm asking for superior products that work correctly. Where in that argument do I say that I don't like innovation?

I never said Apple's once a year idea is the best. But they do have it right in that they don't spread themselves too thin. Which is exactly what the major Android players do.

I'm not sure I buy your argument that Moto phones are more unfinished than any other mfgrs. Every smartphone is going to have teething problems. You are wasting your energy (IMO) in being frustrated that cell phones aren't "superior products that work correctly". they are obviously complex in nature and therefore will have their individual issues.

Of course you are entitled to your opinion, but I think it's fantastic that we have so much choice. I'd rather there be a great new phone every month than a great new phone every year.

Here's the thing: I know I'm on a 20 month cycle. I choose the best phone that i can get now, and then I stop worrying about all of the new phones coming out afterward. I pay attention because I'm interested, but not because I want to gnash my teeth that, had I only waited a few more weeks, I could have got a slightly better phone.

It is that way now, it will be that way in twenty months. At your next upgrade time, you get to buy the phone that the guy who bought last month's phone is going to be upset about for not waiting another month.

It's so much less stressful to just make a choice and stop worrying about your decision when new phones that come out within a few months of your choice.

BTW, I cannot think of a single Android phone that came out that was 10x better than a phone that came out two weeks before. I know, you exaggerate, but this has been more of a slow and steady evolution than tremendous improvement followed by sluggishness.
