If you have to make such a big effort to even notice the scratch... why do you even care? Just let things be. Or put a screen protector on so you won't get more of whatever you are noticing.

I didn't create this thread. The thread I created was just a heads up warning for all those that might care about getting scratches to use a screen protector. I agree that this OP's post is a bit alarmist and takes things a bit too far - I for one am not going to alert or petition Samsung or whatever it was he suggests. But does it really bug you that much though that people post about this kind of thing?

I'm not saying this specifically about you... but sometimes it just feels weird to read threads where it looks like people are literally SEARCHING for "issues" to complain about.

Maybe it just shows how good of a phone the SGS3 is if there aren't any really major faults with it. (like the iPhone losing reception when you hold on to it)

A conversation about Scotland and castles and no one has yelled "FREEDOM!!"

..and like the major problems with the Htc One X mate :)
at first i wasnt really sure about the s3.. i usualy go for much cheaper androids that are very hackable.. but i really cant fault the phone other than its looks (i know a lot of people think its beautiful but i like a meaner look). its a complete masterpiece of a phone and totally worthy of the "S" badge :) p.s. i bought my s3 un-subsidised and ill be paying for it for a long time lol :)

SPIGEN SGP Steinheil Ultra Nano Clear

At times this is true. There are those that come up with every little thing to complain about, I've seen it and know exactly what you mean. Sometimes there are also those on the oppositions' side trying to "fan the flames". Myself however, I only complain about real issues. I love my S3, in one of my earlier threads (or posts - can't recall) I lamented how I've never been this excited about a phone in a long time. But, I do call things out when I see issues with them. Sometimes I have the unfortunate circumstance of posting when ticked and before I've calmed down - like my recent "slider phone" thread. The reason there is because sometimes I just can't comprehend how such annoying little glitches can get through product testing with all the people they employ to find issues, or maybe they don't and I just think they do? LOL.

But this scratch thing, the reason I feel it's an honest issue to bring to light is simply due to the fact the older technology (gorilla glass 1) seems to hold up better than the newer tech. I still will reassert how my Droid 2 that I've had naked for nearly two years has an absolutely *pristine* screen. I'd dropped it once or twice in the house onto my wooden floors, never concrete. I also have a Cowon S9 mp3 player (Gorilla Glass 1 as well) that I've had for even more years and it only has one tiny visible knick in the screen, no micro-scratches or anything else.

So, at this point I think it's really not all that unfair to be alarmed that the newer Gorilla Glass appears to possibly be more fragile to scratches than the old tech. That's really the only point that is being made - at least by me. I'm by no means looking for a replacement or joint complaint to Samsung, it's just something that's really good to know, and still disappointing at the same time because had I known then I would've just used a screen protector this time around. I did order the Spigen one btw.

Re: We need to let OEMs and Corning know how bad Gorilla Glass 2

yeah i can vouch that Rev isnt a "moaner", more like lookin for logical eplanations/remedies. id still like to know if theres a difference between the glass on UK (or international) s3s in terms of scratchability (ma new word) so has anyone with a gt-i9300 noticed random scratches through normal use?

There's certainly a possibility there's a difference. I've seen other materials and products in my past tech history where certain manufacturing plants either had a higher quality control or a more perfected process leading to a better product output. Could also be the materials used. Sometimes the suppliers are different and the materials in different locations could have slight differences in tolerances or manufacturing.

Who knows? Is it super likely? Not really... is it possible? Of course. For all we know though they are probably all made in China anyway and this may be a moot point :p ....unless the glass is made at different factories then shipped to the China assembly plants...

Re: We need to let OEMs and Corning know how bad Gorilla Glass 2

feel your pain monkey mate.. there is defo something strange going on here with two destinct qualitys of gg2

Re: We need to let OEMs and Corning know how bad Gorilla Glass 2

Yeah, I'll try to get a couple pics with my wife's GS3 (who doesn't have an scratches, despite just tossing it in her purse). She can just toss it anywhere and it's fine. I put it **gasp** in my pocket and it looks like I took an SOS pad to it.

I kindof wonder what would happen if I did one of those scratch tests with keys or razor blades. I bet it would destroy my phone (I'm not going to try it though).

I think I'm going to contact Samsung about it just to see what happens.

funkylogik: Probably a grasp at straws, but wondering what version you have? I got a blue 32GB (Verizon). My wife's is a white 32GB and doesn't seem to have any issues. Mine seems to scratch if I look it at the wrong (or right) way.

This is very interesting that your wife's phone seems as scratch resistant as we would expect and yours is not. I always had a screen protector even on my Droid X but actually considered going naked on my S3. I had it 2 days, ALWAYS in a holster or face up on a desk, and I also started noticing the fine scratches. Put the screen protector on it right away at that point, but I was surprised! BTW, I also have the blue 32GB, VZW.

Wonder if someone should start a poll - if you have micro-scratches, which version/color/carrier do you have?

Re: We need to let OEMs and Corning know how bad Gorilla Glass 2

yeah i duno how to start the poll things but someone should defo do it. mines a white 16gb sim-free international monkey mate

Re: We need to let OEMs and Corning know how bad Gorilla Glass 2

It's not a color thing, that's silly - no offense intended. Anyhow, mine is a white US version and I have about 5 micro-scratches on mine, so relax you guys with blue one's, it's not the color ;)
