web page kills my phone, big hurt of lag

You can add Nexus 7 2013 to that list as well. I have horrible lag/loading issues on both devices (I also have a Nexus 5), and I don't want to use the AC app for something I can easily access through Chrome. I installed it just to get to this forum because the webpage was running too slowly.

This has been happening for a while now, and I've just been going to other sites more frequently for news where these issues aren't present.

It is very disappointing that a website about Android doesn't work reliably on Android.

Both of my devices are on 4.4.4 stock. The 5 is rooted, 7 isn't. Both using Chrome.

I deleted my backlog of AC articles in RSS but it's building up again.
Going to have to unsubscribe. Sad.

@All - just looping back to check-in with everyone here.. I notice most of the complaints stopped in early November, around the same time we pushed a number of fixes.

How is the site performing for you now? Better?

The complaints probably stopped from a lack of belief that anything was going to be done. For me, they stopped because, as mentioned earlier, I generally just avoid the main site now.

I did, unfortunately, try to view Phil's editorial yesterday and the experience was horrible. Same old thing. Freeze, stutter, no response to touch input. This was on a Droid Turbo with latest updates to Chrome. The experience was so poor that I came very close to just dumping AC from my RSS feeds.

It feels like the site has improved marginally, but nowhere close to enough to make it a pleasant experience.

If you can do me a favor, clear your cookies and browser history, and try again. A number of updates have been pushed over the last few months, and want to be sure that you're pulling the latest files. Let me know!

I believe I talked about stuttering while scrolling on the Android Central site with Phil Nicholson once and he said that Android Central's code was clean but the advertisements using JavaScript really messed up performance.

Either he said that or something along those lines, turning off JavaScript fixed the lag but again it's not an extremely good solution.

wondered why the desktop site is laggy too? My laptop is a fairly decent spec, and can download and render most web pages in the blink of an eye, clearly spends time downloading and rendering Android Central.

Since AC seem disinterested in doing any analysis, I ran one for you... here's a waterfall diagram showing loading of a page:
WebPagetest Test Result - Amsterdam : www....-cheer-big-savings - 12/16/14 22:08:22

415 separate requests to fetch all the page assets. really?
some of the page assets don't actually get downloaded until 21 seconds in (see the details tab).

what you guys have done is clog up the web page with so much junk that it's like attaching a huge trailer to the back of your car loaded with hitch hikers, the sheer weight of all the stuff on the page is enough to kill anything!

conclusion: Android Central's web programmers are bat**** crazy.

While your results may well be spot on, your conclusion, I would disagree with.

Programming isn't as easy as you would think and the programmers on this site do actively try to improve on the issues that we have, I've seen this happen several times.

There a lot of sites that do a lot worse than Android Central when it comes to performance and on my laptop everything on Android Central runs smooth as butter. Even on my phone, provided I disable JavaScript.

Problem: my minivan won't go very fast because it's packed with stuff and towing a huge trailer full of really heavy things.
Solution: don't lighten the load, fit a bigger engine to drag all that stuff along faster.

You will find that it's the forum that is at fault I have found issues with Adds from a company linked to the forum called Adchoice on a pc there girding all the brousers to a halt I have put veriouse add blocking add on's to stop these adds it then takes 30 to 40 seconds to load it's become unusable the only way I can post is via there own App as this has no adds. Very disappointed at Android central signing up with this company
