Some friends and I visited Death Valley in March and spent the night in an old motel, the Amargosa Opera House & Hotel. It was straight out of a Twilight Zone episode—the only place around for miles, almost deserted except for ourselves and a group of German tourists, and purportedly, the owner and star of the Opera House, who was now 92 and confined to her room. When morning came I went outside to greet the day, glad to still be alive, and found this amazing sunrise. I woke up my reluctant friends to come see it, and you can tell that they are still half asleep, one drinking in the sunrise wearing his blanket and the other (a real estate agent) checking his messages on his iPhone.
I took this with the stock camera app, panorama setting, on a Motorola Droid Razr HD Maxx. Nice phone, good camera as you can see.
